Ranged classes beware
Just wondered if the problem I have experienced as a ranged class is universal.
Them Melee types cant resist grabbing the drops!!! even good friends who in all other ways are fair and considerate do it. In AC2 and Horizons it drove me mad. It was a knee jerk reaction they didnt even realise they were doing it!! |

Re: Ranged classes beware
Are we talking about ranged classes or rangers? They are hardly the same thing. Actually I don't understand what being a ranger has to do with not getting the loot.
When I played "EverQuest" and was doing LDoN runs I was usually did all of the looting for the party and after the adventure I would sell everything and split the coins. Any lore items that were found were rolled on. If your party has a problem dividing the loot fairly then it is probabally because your group is poorly organized or didn't have enough discussion on how loot was to be distributed.

Re: Ranged classes beware
I think hes referring to his distance from the corpse preventing him from being able to loot from the closer melees. I had similar issues as a wizard in EQ from time to time.
I agree though with a little discussion or more likely a robust loot system like WoWs in place that shouldnt be much of a problem.

Re: Ranged classes beware
Out of all the loot systems I've seen or read about I still like FFXI's the best. Simple and streamlined.
Part of what I disliked about WoW was how the loot rule could be changed any time. Dealing with leaders who change loot rules to benefit themselves was one of the biggest headaches of WoW for me.

Re: Ranged classes beware
The most amusing thing I found about FFXI was how worked up people got about changing traditions regarding it. When I imported the game and played with the Japanese (and other importers), looting always consisted of rolling for things. When something would drop, everyone rolled, even for crystals. If they were full or didn't really want it, they didn't roll. This often happened during the next battle so as to keep things running smoothly and to have something to do either during downtime or tedious battles (of which there were many).
Then when the English version was released, those folks had their own standards which involved never rolling unless it was something special that needed folks to pass on. And I mean, never, rolling. If you rolled in one of their parties, there would be at least one person yelling at you for being a loot hog. Needless to say, there were some interesting confrontations between people of two different loot traditions ![]()

Re: Ranged classes beware
Haha, yeah. The JP had it right IMO, the NA way often led to items being lost until they fixed it to pass items to the next highest roll if the player who won it had a full inventory.

Re: Ranged classes beware
Greymain - to be honest (and i play a melee most of the time) if i have a need for coinage, then i dont even look at most of the loot - i just hit accept
I am more than willling to hand over something if someone says they need it but since i usually am crafting and in major need of coinage then everything just goes into the black hole of inventory to be sold. I have had people say that need comes before greed - but i dont consider myself greedy - I may not need the item persay but unless it hase no-value then its coinage to me. |

Re: Ranged classes beware
The whole need before greed argument is a double standard. People insist that just because they use an item they have more right to have the item even though everyone in the group worked together to recieve that item. If they item has value everyone deserves to have an equal chance to recieve the item. A flawed need before greed system never worked well outside of a group of close friends.
