I am also hoping to see the huge neon symbols removed from above NPC heads. Completely kills alot of the realism for me. I want a challenge at times, not huge beacons leading me from contact to contact.

It's funny how so many on the OVF say that quest markers ruin their "immersion". Those effects exist to increase the typical player's immersion. There might be better ways than a Mario-esque '!', but I see fewer posts suggesting alternative systems than I see flaming and moaning. Though I do see a lot of suggesting that there be no tools for obtaining quests and that we be forced to converse with the NPCs. Which I can't agree with; I'm not playing an online game to converse with code.

I dont enjoy wasting hours looking for NPC's but niether do I want great big indicators or silver threads showing the way. A good decriptive note in my journal directing me back to an NPC or to the next location in the trail is fine. Equally notice boards, Taverns or other designated meeting places to find quest giving NPC's would work for me.

So, get a bit wierd with it and make up something, like...the "neon signs" are actually "tongues of fire" that annoint a special avatar with the power to pass on the knowledge needed to persue further knowledge.

How's that? /grin
