Greetings
Hello everyone.
I stumbled across an advert for this game and decided to check it out, not knowing that I would be very intrigued with what I have seen so far. Currently a World of Warcraft subscriber, I hope to switch over when this title hits the shelves. So far I like most of what I see, and I plan to stick around to see how this game develops. To tell you a little about myself and what I look for in a game, I am a student attending a community college in eastern Tennessee. I major in Journalism and I am always looking for new material to write about. At the moment I specialize in writing short stories in fantasy settings, hence my love for the MMO genre (but I always loved them anyways. ). When looking for a new fantasy world to call my home, I am always enticed by clear, crisp graphics and fluid motion. Realism, at least in the visual sense, has always been a quality I seek in an online game such as Vanguard. When traveling in the world, I have always enjoyed large and open terrain. In past MMO's, I never could find a place to roam without having to constantly interact with a N(PC). Call it my wanderlust, but strolling across a vast open plain while reveling in a spring rain is like putting me in a candy store with a handful of $100 bills. However, I also enjoy the social side of life and partake in the cities and towns, so I can't call myself a die-hard introvert. The second-most important quality I look for is the music. Not just the theme music for a specific area, but the ambience as well. I want to be immersed in where I am to help the simulation become all the more, in a word, authentic. If the soundtrack is appropriate in its timing, placement, and execution I will be one happy gamer. Well, my shift at work is about to end. I hope to become more acquainted with you all soon, but until then, I am off to perform my other obligations. Goodbye for now! Last edited by Garrick : 02-10-2006 at 04:07 PM. |

Re: Greetings
Welcome! What characters do you have at the moment in World of Warcraft? Hopefully Vanguard will have the large and open terrain you seek as there are no zones or "isolated" areas from my understanding. It's all one big world.

Re: Greetings
*sneaks over to the Tech building to steal access on one of their computers*
I am currently working on a Night Elf Warrior. It's more of a passing fancy if anything, but one that has held my interest since October of last year. She is level 52 and slowly progressing upward. Unfortunately if I was a dedicated gamer on there, I would soon become frustrated with the end-game raid content due to my 56k modem... I am afraid that it is the only type of access that is available to me, though I do get a reliable connection and it works surprisingly well when I am not in a 40+ person group. But, I'm rambling. I do long for an open world, one where I am not pushed into a certain direction, though it is certainly available to me. I do like WoW, but I feel it is a bit too oriented on the PvP aspects (which in my opinion still need a good deal of tweaking). I'm as dedicated to the cause as any other Alliance/Horde, but sometimes I just want to buy a house, set up a farm, and play the game that way. That being said, I have to say that I like to roleplay when I can. There's just something about really putting yourself into someone else's shoes that makes the game just seem so much better. That's just me though. *continues to ramble on to himself...* |

Re: Greetings
Hm, we had a couple people with 56K modems during 40man raids and aside from higher than normal latency (500-900) they didn't really have much of a problem fulfilling their job in the instance.
Now, if you were the main tank I could see some issues arrising otherwise I think it wouldn't be THAT bad if you did decide to raid with the 56K modem.

Re: Greetings
Wow, that sucks. I know what it's like to be literally stuck with 56k though, for awhile I couldn't get DSL because my phone lines were fiber optic. No cable company was in my area yet and satellite isn't really an alternative for games. Thankfully Comcast finally expanded into my area and i'm one of the few who has it now(so it's really fast, haha)

Re: Greetings
Welcome Garrick. The last game I played that allowed me to explore properly was AC2. WoW and EQ2 never gave me the feeling I was in another world rather than a game zone. I do have hopes for Vanguard due to size and seamless nature plus a response from Brad that large areas of Vanguard will consist points of interest in a large wilderness inhabited by animals and plants. Ideal for exploration.
