PvP and PvE mix in Vanguard
I realize I may be opening an ugly can o bugbears, or the point may be moot. Is there a plan for player versus player in Vanguard in addition to player versus environment?
I've been reading as much as possible, but either I am looking in the wrong place or am just plain blind. I love rp and I love pitting my hard-won accoutrements against a rival/enemy player. On the flipside, I absolutely detest the pigeon-speak that goes along with a non-rp environment....pwnage, gank, flaming, stfupple...whatever phrase is used usually indicates the level of maturity involved. I am part of a rp/pvp guild in WoW (I know, I know...don't start) that pushes both aspects of online gaming but emphasizes rp....no matter the encounter. What are the thoughts out there? RP? PvP? RP/PvP?

IIRC, the devs said there will be PvP, but not at launch and it will employ a different balance system to PvE so the two don't have to be balanced against one another.
RP might be ready for launch, I hope it is because I am ready and waiting for an RP server to play on RP/PvP is anyone's guess I think. There will be "Special Ruleset" servers but not in time for launch. And there is nothing wrong with WoW, we've all got to play something while we wait for Vanguard, right? (THIS is my something). |

What about mixing the sides of the coin?
Good versus Evil guilds/lands and or grouping of player characters of differing alignments/affiliations? Does it make sense for a DreadKnight to group with a Paladin or will there be natural enmity?

Dread Knights are not necessarily evil. They are just guys who believe the the end justifies the means
![]() It is entirely possible that a Dread Knight and Paladin could both be serving the same diety and working toward the same cause... they would just have different ideas about the methods employed to achieve their goals. |

Heh heh, so a Dread Knight and a Paladin are both working to secure an outlying village from Gnoll attacks...(don't ask me why I chose a gnoll...lol)
The Paladin reviews the situation and decides that bolstering the towns defenses and standing at the Vanguard....no pun...seriously...in the event of an attack would solve the situation... Now, the Dread Knight, reviewing the same scenario, decides to take matters into his/her own hands, tracks down the gnoll lair with the help of a couple of village idiots and puts every single humanoid to the sword, regardless of their intentions all while using the village idiots an cannon fodder to protect his own skin... Situation served in both points, the village has been defended...but the end justified the means... Moral ambiguity aside....who would you rather be? And...will there be a line of delineation for choosing good or evil?

Of course, as a Warrior I would probably slaughter them all too, depends on my reasons for fighting the gnolls in the first place...There is a good discussion of the morality of the 4 tank classes here: http://vanguardfighters.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=64 |
