The Art of War #1

I started a new weekly column called the Art of War. You can read it HERE.

This thread is for discussion about the article. Any thoughts?

No doubt the main thing that will separate a decent tank, from an amazing tank.

Gear has got nothing on the player's brain behind the screen.

Absolutely - knowledge is power, and a tank needs to know not only how his enemy works, but also how his allies do as well.

What a great idea, Dwarf! I'll be looking forward to each installment.

I'd like to see hamstringing akin to snare in Vanguard, but with a much shorter duration, invoking the need for tactics. Also, totally new CC methods would be cool, something like Petrify instead of just Fear or Turn Undead. Petrify could also come with a price: like a boost to the AC of a mob, so you'd need to think ahead what CC you'd want to use against what kind of mob. Maybe an ice type spell could make the AC boost 'crack' like stone would or something.

Oh wow, you really inspired me to start brainstorming .

See i've always had my own saying regarding this. "Without the wisdom to guide it knowledge is powerless."

Wisdom is womething we will gain through our experience in the game, knowledge can be achieved at any number of sources. So even though we "know" how to treat an encounter, or a certain area, its our own experience with it that will alllow us to use the knowledge we gained effectively.

True, but what is wisdom but the application of knowledge gained through experience?

As for Sun Tsu, most of his teachings apply as much now as they did then - I strongly recommend getting a copy and reading it, it can be very insightful.
