The racial bonuses will just be little 'nice to have' things.. and certainly won't be game breaking in any way.
As an example.. you won't have a race that cannot be stunned from the front.. but you may have a racial bonus that says race X gets a 5% to accuracy with axes, or race Y gets a 5% bonus to sword damage.. or something like that. We're never going to gimp a player because of a racial choice.

Ahh, novelty. That sounds awesome Elidroth.
From the information out so far I think it's likely that Sigil won't take equality to the extreme, making class choice meaningless. At least I hope that's the case. If the knight classes can tank the big pure dps raid mobs the same as warriors, I won't be too happy. But if they can tank certain raid/group mobs better than warriors because of certain abilities, and visa versa, I will be quite pleased. If the combat system is well designed, skill should be more important than race, and to some degree make up for lack of gear. I really hope they get it right. Elidroth, tell me Dwarves get the axe modifier, and also that there are good axes in VG, unlike EQ's swordfest loot tables. |

I like those sorts of weapon bonuses. The race with an axe bonus will be "better" for the guy who happens to like using axes, but another player who prefers maces won't see that race as anything special and may prefer some other race. This creates a situation where the answer to the question "Which race is best?" becomes "It depends on what you like doing". That's a good thing.
Inkling--I hate to say this, but I hope to see you disappointed (I mean it in the nicest possible way). The stated goal of class interchangeability within an archtype for most encounters is one of a handful of reasons I'm so interested in Vanguard, and not the competition. It's actually the single most important feature to me. Other major reasons I'm interested are the Fellowship system, the focus on grouping, and the focus AWAY from PvP. Danth |
