Great Idea

I just though of something great. The server should keep track of your home city and flag your actions each time you leave and return. Then the guards at the city gates could great you with a heroes welcome or give you condolances. They could track plenty of things to give you diferent welcomes. How many times you died, how many times you killed x race or type of mob. If youve made it all the way through a dungeon, or killed a specific raid mob. It would be great, imagine returning home and hearing something like.

"Welcome home Wrage, Rumor has it youve slayed many Kobolds on your journey."

"Rough trip huh? Get in here and rest back up."

"Attention! Attenton! Wrage has returned, the great hero that slayed the dragon Steve and defended our city."

The key would be to have A whole lot of these so that even after playing the game for a considerable amount of time you would still here something new every now and then.
And to put it in /say or /shout so everyone around you can hear what you did.

Thoughts/ comments?

Good idea...but I think it should be limited to "server first" type things. I can just imagine the spam as noob01 enters the city for the 100th time in the last hour after dieing to yet another uber rat LOL

Yeah, maybee something more rare, but not exactaly server firsts. Would like to see evryone get to have a message every now and then. Maybee make it more extreme. Only get a message if you died 10 times since you have last been there, with more brutal/concerned messages every 5 or 10 deaths on top of that. They could also have different levels. Some of the more common being said in /say and /shout for the more pronounced. And a serverwide tell for a server first or extremely rough thing.

I just think it would be cool and add to the immersion. A minor way to have the world react to you instead of you reacting to the worl all the time like most mmorpgs.

How great would it be to defeat some tough gnoll dungeon outside of a city and get praised by the guards when you ride in with your shiney new loot. Or to be a newb and after this guard tells you to keep your chin up after a humbling experience you see some group come riding into the city to great fanfare, the bard at the gates blares the trumpets and the guards shout about how these heroes have saved the city from whatever invading horde there is.

That would be cool without a doubt. I would like to see it implemented. However, I'm sure its not on the top of their to do list; or on the list at all for that matter.

Would be extremely cool, but as in all cool things...it would also be extremely difficult.
Imagine how many text macros they would have to come up with to stay original, and the kind of technology they would need to implement to track your every move in order to commend you for it.

"You picked a mighty bushel of wheat out there today Jebediah!"

"Great job walking from the last town to this one, Carl, your legs must be tired."

I don't know if we've reached this point yet.

they would have to use an individual server to track all of the data if it was going to be done that way, instead individual mobs should be tethered to a count...

i.e. you kill a giant rat ... 1/10th of an amazing deed.... 9 rats later you are now going to get a message when you enter town...

or maybe you kill 7 rats... 7/10 of the way there... then you start killing gnolls... and maybe they are a 1/3 ratio, so you kill 7 giant rats and 3 gnolls and you would get something like

*Good job ______, on keeping those pesky rodents out of the way and slaying part of the gnoll population*

or maybe you kill 20 rats = 20/10 = 2 so you would get an amazing message or something...

kinda like a flag for each thing you kill, every time you leave town... but different mobs score you different messages and are of different importantce... like if you kill 11340958643096 giant rats, and 1 dragon then you get praised for the dragon and nothing about the rats is mentioned... etc. this system would be much easier, then they would have to make bot's for the guards... or script bots anyways, that are linked to the flagging server, and they just scan to see what you killed lately and whatever is of most importance they congratulate on it...

and by bots, i mean nice little computers that have somewhat AI.... www.santabot.com comes to mind. hes very intelligent for a computer you know...

just my thoughts on how to make a complex system a little bit easier o.o

Eq2 has a system where they keep track of how many mobs of each type you kill over the coarse of the characteres entire life. So i wouldnt think it would be much different than that.

That is correct and it was pretty cool at first. However, all it gave out as a reward was a suffix title for a certain amount of mobs for each different type of race killed. Nothing more ever became of it.

What you're suggesting is this same kind of idea, but in a much more complex way and it would definately be awesome to see it implemented.
