What impresses me is the idea of mounted combat that is more than just "I attack like normal, but I have a horse where my legs should be" as we saw in EQ1 / EQ2. Admittedly this is inferred, as I cannot believe simple mounted combat would need so much time to implement, so I choose to believe we'll see proper cavalry maneuvers.
Bodes well for something special. |

I specifically asked about mounted combat mechanics and they said that when they put it in, it would be a completely different set of combat mechanics so that it would provide a more realistic experience. So I'm thinking it's going to be pretty good stuff

It'll be interesting to see mounted combat in an MMO done right. I don't know that I really care one way or the other about it. What I would like to see, however, is flight of some sort. Flying mounts... drakes or something. Or a mage with a flight spell, or shamans who can transform into some sort of winged creature. That'd be awesome. I think the in game physics of Vanguard could allow this, but in game flight may pose other problems ala exploits etc. Oh well...

heh... i really don't have much to say about mounts... they've never been beneficial to a melee so i've never had one lol.... maybe i will get one if its beneficial to the melee riders instead of here, take this horse, get cool horse-riding graphics and different attacks that do the same amount of damage as your normal attacks....
.... horses that are beneficial, that would be leet. ![]()

As long as they can be used for travel and storage, I'll use one. Maybe a wagon or something could be made available for artisans? I suppose if they are implementing ship combat that mounted combat is probably just an extension or sister to that ruleset, so they may as well. But yeah, anything that decreases time from point A to point B is a worthy acquisition. Why wouldn't you use one before? I know in EQ1 you ended up being to port everywhere, which was lame, but any other reasons for not wanting a mount?

they are lame, they eat my food, drink my water, and they arn't beneficial except to get to places faster... and if i was in a hurry i would click my sow potion and be gone....
horse that goes fast enough to make a difference: 100,000pp Doesn't stay around when you go indoors. Sow potion: 10p. stays on when you zone into an indoor zone. tough choice really....

I hope that mounts in Vanguard, if trained well, will give the EXACT same benefits to our characters as they would have in the real world.
Because of that, I would like to see our characters get fatigued if they travel on foot for too long. Also, enough of this: "my character carries 5 large backpacks with all sorts of crap I picked up on his back while I run from town to town." Without a horse, characters should not have that much pack-space. Also, in combat, warhorses were invaluable to cavalry. Not because they went around kicking and biting their enemy, but because they gave initiative and leverage. A Knight on a horse can charge into combat and always get the first hit. His horse can keep away his enemies with hooves and mock-charges. A lance in the hands of a cavalryman was incredibly dangerous. A horse can charge straight through a wall of defenders on foot without pause. A skilled horseman could use his horse as an extension of his own feet and move around the field at a much quicker rate, while not impeding his skill with his weapon. (or her, no offense ladies) If they do this, or even if they simply get us from place to place like a normal mount, than they are worth more than people give them credit for. But I implore Sigil not to make these mounts incredibly expensive. A horse that costs as much as a house is stupid. WoW set the price for lvl 60 mounts at 1k gold, which is absolutely ridiculous. Please don't fall into the same mockery of pricing that encourages gold-farming. That's about all for now. -Eclipse
