In most games that I've played, I've always tried to use a Flail and Kite Shield. Paladins were always warriors at heart, so obviously they were trained to use any and every weapon placed before them, and were perfectly capable of turning their surroundings into deadly weapons as well.
I'd like to think that your weapon selection would be in line with your chosen diety. For instance, in the later D&D games, each god had a favorite weapon or two, and you would recieve bonuses with those weapons. I like this idea and it would add a bit more to weapon choices then just the best dmg/dly ratio. |

I have always liked using spears when I can, the problem is it was always hard to find a good 2h spear to use :/. I loved my Spear of Fire in EQ1 but it and the Deepwater Harpoon were the only two spears I really ever had a chance at using. There was one or two during the Velious era but I never had a chance at those.
In the end I found myself using a staff as my main weapon... Vanazir: Dreamer's Despair was a very nice weapon, but it just didn't fit. I wonder if Vanguard will have similar odities? A Rogue with a Greatsword, a Paladin with a staff, a wizard with dual longswords. Anyway, I really want to have the option of using the weapon make of my choice then just the one I use cause I think it's the best. Will probably end up useing some 2h sword I am sure. Fahn Fianna P.S. Hiya! |

Hail and well met, I'm new to the boards and a future Paladin to boot. Whatever the options come to be, for myself I would like to be able to use sword and shield, a 2hs for when the going gets rough, and a lance and shield for mounted combat.
As for what I think a paladin should have access to, I would say most melee weapons, blunt or sharp, and exclude ranged weapons. Leave the ranged weapons to the ranger and rogues who handle them best. We're designed for front line fighting, not scurrying around the behinds of the group after all.
