paladin vs cleric?
so i was in a grp today (lvl8), and im just wondering if clerics go downhill as far as melee go from lvl 10, cause from what i noticed a cleric does just as good of a job tanking as i did minus the taunt/provoke whatever its called... and from my very limnited observations Cleric and Paladin seem Very similar...

Re: paladin vs cleric?
I choose cleric just because I enjoy being a very capable healer. Sometimes I forget I have melee capabilities as well. So personally, of the two, I would have to go cleric. However, I've only gotten up to level 9, so I really can't answer your question about the melee capabilities post level 10.

Re: paladin vs cleric?
Tanking is one thing - but my cleric duos with hubby's ranger and now that we hit level 10 and he has critical shot (and other goodies), there is no way in heaven or hell that I'm taking aggro away from him unless I get really lucky. For that, a pally might be (should be?) better.
My melee damage is laughable, too. Oh, I'm competent solo, but if I solo for an hour or so and then duo up with him, I usually fall about laughing for the first 5 minutes as stuff that took me ages to kill folds up like wet tissue paper under his attacks. ![]() Funny thing is, I usually play offensive-fighter types myself - but I'm really enjoying the cleric enormously. I might take forever to kill things, but they sure can't kill *me*, even when they bring 2 buddies along. ![]()

Re: paladin vs cleric?
For sure! I duo with my husband's sorcerer. Half the time, stuff is dead before it even gets to us! (Sorc power ftw!) But if it does, and I'm sure not taking aggro back from him, I am more than able to keep him from getting squished.

Re: paladin vs cleric?
This thread made me remember one thing I *would* like to see tweaked for clerics (and quite possibly the other mostly-casting classes?) -- my cleric has a chain thingy, and it's melee triggered... meaning it almost never comes into play. It's not a major thing, but hearing hubby's chain sound effect every few seconds is giving me total reaction-skill envy. On the rare occasions it lights up on my own bar I just about dance a victory jig.
Question & point there being - are there spell chains, or are they all melee based? Anyone know? As an example, something that might be cool for a healer would be critting on a heal (you can, right?) and having that chain into a group heal... or critting on a direct damage spell and having that light up a (tweaked to whatever power is appropriate) AoE damage spell. And so on.
