It’s very difficult to nail down one favorite…so a couple of authors. Regarding Jordan, his latest is actually quite good; he’s definitely left the weirdness of 7 – 10 behind. Also, he’s bound and determined to finish it in 12, which means the last book is going to be huge considering how much is left open. I read a quote from his website a while back saying 12 would be the last if they had to invent new ways of binding books to do it. Martin is absolutely great (although his latest is odd – he divided all the various storylines and wrote half in the newest, and will do the other half with the next book. Both are in the same timeline, however), as is Robin Hobb. Her books are incredibly well written. Those are my current top three.

It wasn’t bad per se, but I just got tired of all the crap these people spewed out. Brienne I could honestly care less about, and Cersei needs to die. What a crazy, conniving woman that is. Gotta’ wait to read the Jon and Tyrion chapters til the next book - cue up my 3-year stop watch …

Roger Zelazny, the Amber series. Get the "Big Book of Amber" which includes all of them for like $2 a book.
Aside from the Lord of the Rings series, none of the stuff you guys have listed is really worthy of the term literature. Zelazny is a grandmaster of sci fi and fantasy; give him a try. PS: Jordan is the fantasy equivalent of a soap opera. |

/agree with lightning and skellen.
i read for fun, kinda like the reason i (we all) log on to a fantasy game world - to escape the stresses of real life maybe? reading books that makes my head hurt isn't fun. call me a dolt if ye will, but i hated that lit class i had to take in college. /shudder "i is a engineer and i ain't readin no tolstoy" |
