RAID 0 or RAID 1

So, Which is faster?

I currently have two 160gig SATA 10k drives on RAID 1, this means that my C: Drive is one big 320gig drive.

I have a second 200gig SATA Drive which i use for storage and install just applications on my C: so space isnt much of a concern.

Anyway, I am going to be re-formatting soon and wonderd if I should change over to Raid0 considering Vangaurds demands are high, but would Raid0 provide much benefit ?

Raid 1 should only have your 2 160 gig drives showing as 1 160 gig drive as 1 is the redundancy (mirror) RAID.

0 is faster, but not by a whole lot. If you're comfortable changing to a striped raid array, you will see some improvement, but don't expect it to be a magic bullet. Personally, I have been unimpressed with how much switching to raid 0 has helped.

Re: RAID 0 or RAID 1

Ah okay, so it sounds like I am just getting my numbers confused!

I've got an Alienware and when I was specing it up I said that I wanted the fastest possible hardrive access because I do alot of video editing and Fraps'ing.

My two hardrives are one big hardrive! its 320g which is made up of two 160 10k SATA's

But I've always been UBER pleased with the performance and have never had to reformat in the 2 years I've had it!, but im particularly anal about sytem maintenance and keeping things clean.

Thanks for the advice.
