No you are right, its probably not your hardware or your software..

Since a recent patch many people are complaining of consistant and predictable CTD, Ive never had ONE until recently, now I get them all the time.

There is an excelent thread on silky venmon for 8800 users.. if you have an 8800! - but has general good tips on solving the problem through ini settings.

For me though, the only solid solution was DONT USE THE TORCH! sounds silly but it works

Possibly but I think in my case the client files were corrupt. So reinstalling worked.

Speaking of CTDs... someone in another thread hereabouts mentioned forcing their vid settings into Pixel shader 2.0. Intrigued by this, I updated to the latest Omega drivers (which may or may not be relevant) and forced that to always-on as well. This was on Monday.

Granted, I haven't actually had much time in-game since then, but so far *crosses fingers* I haven't had a single CTD. Since the chances of them happening to me increase the longer I'm online, and since I've not been logged in for much longer than about an hour at a time lately, I'm unwilling to pay for a parade just yet... but I'm hopeful. I *have* travelled almost across the entirety of Thestra in one session, as well as logged most of my legion of alts on -- both of which activities seem to encourage CTDs. So far, so good.
