Quick Defrag for vanguard
The following programs will allow you to defrag just your vanguard folder and it will be done in about 5-10 minutes.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sk/Contig.mspx http://freeweb.siol.net/razor256/dow...gmenterGUI.zip Both are FREE, also please note that you need to put contig.exe in the powerdefrag folder |

People might be hitting the links and just not saying anything. Ungrateful curs that we are!

Re: Quick Defrag for vanguard
For the more challenged among us (I include myself in this number):
-- download Contig from BT's link, extract it to wherever you please; -- download the GUI and extract it to the same folder you just put Contig in; -- use the PowerDefragGUI to defrag what you want - it's pretty easy to follow. All the second link does is provide a graphical user interface for Contig, and thanks a ton for that. I speak command line but I'd rather not have to. ![]() I just used it to defrag my Sony folder and it took less than 10 minutes. I also saw several files flash by, in the Meshes directory (so I wasn't too surprised) that were in 100+ fragments. That *has* to slow things down, and this is after a defrag just before launch, so 3 weeks ago? A 10 minute defrag every few days beats the 2-hour jobbie I forget to do more than once every few months. There - that's gratitude! ![]()

Re: Quick Defrag for vanguard
2 hours for a defrag? My longest is around 20 minutes, and that's if I download LOTS of patches and other programs etc.
I don't see the need to just defrag one folder, just defrag the whole comp on a weekly basis (if you've patched or downloaded anything) |
