Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
I have a problem with my game. After a while of playing 1/2 an hour to 1 hour approx, I crash to the desktop. I do get a little warning this is going to happen by images in the game not loading correctly. After a length of time playing, my FPS starts to drop and items in the world like some walls, signpost, rocks, things scattered about the world in general don't load correctly. They load but instead of all the detail they are just solid white. After about a minute of this, I crash to the desktop.
I messed with all the settings, turning things on and off, different performance settings, low, high etc. I have also changed drivers in my vid card and sound card, defragged, un-installed and then re-installed the game, turned off firewalls, turned ANTI-VIRUS off. I have done everything I can think of, but I still get the same problem. I have, in the last few days installed a new Vid card and still get the same problem. Apart from that, my game runs fine with good performance. Has anyone any advice on what could be the problem? Last edited by Nosyd-V : 02-05-2007 at 08:19 AM. Reason: Missed something out |

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
How much memory are you running with?
My first guess is that there might be a slow memory leak in the client somewhere that is biting you. I have seen what you describe once or twice when I am on for a long time but am running with 2 Gig of RAM.

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
I never ran into this problem with beta, and I haven't gotten to play 2 hours straight yet to see if I run into this issue.
I don't see an answer to this one on the technical page. Have you /bugged or /petitioned it?

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
I have done a bug report and a petition. My petition got deleted without a reply. I once sent a a petition because my Tombstone was stuck in a chunk line, it couldn't be seen from either side. That was also deleted and also the second one I sent on the same subject.
I have also posted on the tech forum but I'm not holding up much hope for a reply. I'm not too confident on the tech/customer support for Vanguard at the moment. |

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
I'm totally non technical, but this works for my much inferior system: /flush. Frequently and often. And lots. And other such synonoyms.
I have it as a hotkey on all my chars because it plain and simply helps prevent the otherwise guaranteed lockups I'll get after a while of playing. My husband, who has almost exactly the same hardware *and* software on his rig, doesn't get those at all. (Makes me miss the simple good old days of my Mac. )I realise this is more of a workaround than a fix, but I'm almost positive it'll help. At the very least it won't hurt.

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
I do use /flush and I try it when I see the white items appearing, but it doesn't seem to get rid of them. I /flush from time to time during playing, but once I see the white items it's to late and I know I'm going to crash in a min or so.
I can play for an hour and al is fine, with good performance and then it just happens for no apparent reason. |

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
It could be heat, and dust. Had a few problems of games crashing to desktop because of heat that was caused by a build up of dust on the graphics card and under the memory sticks I know its strange to get dust under them but it happened, had to remove the sticks and use a compressed air can to blow out the dust everything worked ok afterwards.

Re: Crash to Desktop after I notice world items not loading
Well, I recently installed a new vid card. So I gave the inside of the PC a good clean up. So I don't think it's an over heating, dust build up type of thing.
I've been looking around forums and noticed a bit of talk about 'Memory leeks' and the vanguard client crashing to the desktop. Whats a memory leek and is there a way of checking for this? |
