hey Nil, got a question for ya. My new motherboard should be in soon, and was wondering what kind of steps I need to take software wise.

I already plan on taking some pics & doing some writeups & diagrams of where stuff is.....my memory is quite short term is the main reason for doing this

What I wanted to know is should I uninstall all other hardware and put in one at a time, or since it's the same mobo, could I just do the replacement and whatever is installed on the hdd will just pick it up as the same one?

Ideally, you'll be able to just swap out the motherboard and be up and running immediately. However, it's quite possible that you'll have to reformat, so you'll want to be ready.

A far as software goes, that depends on what you've got already. Make sure you at least have the drivers for your network card somewhere you can get to them just in case. If you can connect to the internet, you can get whever else you need. Well, you need Windows as well, obviously.

I wouldn't uninstall any more hardware than I had to. Depending on the case layout, you might have to pull everything out of there to get a new motherboard in, but more often, you can leave your drives right where they are.

2 comp systems back i had a 9999GE (6800GT) and 300w isn't enough, it would for a very basic setup, but for a gaming rig, understanding that it need to run hours and hours beter up the W to atleast 400 or 450 to like the former poster said to be future proof, well unles you will go for a 7 or 8 series card then 550/650 is needed

On topic,i'm also a great fan of building my own boxes, compared to the systems iv'e build myself ,compared to ready systems out of the store it saves you lots of money aswell and you do get to put together the system with the part YOU want in them. And that feeling when you have put everything together and you start the beast up and see the boot window it always makes me very satisfied.
Really enjoy'd how you nicely put your pages together, it was a good read even though i knew all of it its definitly usefull for the newb or semi-amuteur
