Radeon Vs. Nvidia?

Well.. leading up to the pre-order release, me and my mates decided to get a LAN event going on for the release of Vanguard. So we get four guys over here and get set up. Get everything installed, I have the best rig of my friends so I was expecting to be getting a better FPS (Put it together myself) So then my friend who has a much older dell computer with like a Radeon 9200 or something (Not as good as my card) Was getting twice as much FPS as me at all times. I have 2GB Ram, Geforce 6200.. 256mb video memory.. (Yea I built my PC awhile ago), Intel 3200+ (3.0GHZ).. He has like 2gb Ram, Radeon 9XXX 128 video memory, and a lesser processor. So while I got 15 FPS he got 30-50FPS.. I tweaked both of our .INI files exactly the same, Anyone know?

Is radeon just more compatible with Vanguard?

On a second thought.. I'm using AGP video card, Maybe his is PCIE? Would that have anything to do with it? MEH!!

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Radeon Vs. Nvidia?

I'll be upgrading my 7800GTX to an X1950XT-X or higher in march...

I'm definitely getting the feeling that ATI seem to have the march on nvidia cards save the 8000 series, however with the nvidia driver issues (not seen any ati issues with vanguard posted here) I'm not sure getting an 8000 series is a wise move at this point.

Nvidia seem to have dropped the driver ball and its rolling down hill faster than they can run to catch it.

I'm just bummed that AMD bought ATI. I've always been an nVidia guy and an AMD guy. would have rather seen them join forces.

I think ATI/AMD is a better partnership for both companies than nVidia/AMD would have been.

That said, both manufacturers excell at different things, and they're very nearly equal (this coming from an ATI fanboy). I hope it stays that way - with each trumping the other several times per generation. It's good for the consumer (though, probably not good for America's power grid).

Re: Radeon Vs. Nvidia?

Lol.. Well that was kind of off topic just a little bit.. So its decided then that Radeon is better than Nvidia? I've always been a Nvidia fan since I can remember. I truely hope this is not the case!!

Who decided that and what's the criteria? Right now, nVidia has the most powerful card on the marketplace. In all likelihood, AMD's R600 will best it when it releases. Then nVidia will counter and so on.

To claim either is the best is impossible.

When comparing two cards, you can make that claim, but not by comparing companies.

X1950XT>7950GT

8800GTS>X1900XT

Re: Radeon Vs. Nvidia?

The 6200 is pretty weak, so even when it's a newer generation, it's still weaker then previous mid-high range cards.

I'm leaning towards ati, but waiting on the r600 first.
I really don't like the state of nvidia drivers anymore.
Nvidia is way behind on their vista drivers, and the xp ones for my 7950gx2 could also use a lot of work.

I'm surprised you were able to play with a 6200 at all, the 6200 LE on this office pc gave me slideshow of heros...
