8800 GTS hitching

Does anyone know of a driver that helps with hitching, it makes no since for this game to stutter when its running on such a powerful videocard. I am using 97.92 and sometimes it hitches every 5-10 seconds, when im sitting there running 40-50FPS it will just hitch away on me and it sucks.

Here are my system specs

P4 3.0Ghz
2GB DDR2 533Mhz
BFG 8800 GTS

Advice or any helpful suggestions appreciated

I have driver 97.92 i think, its the latest one out, is there another that works better and doesn't hitch

Re: 8800 GTS hitching

At a guess (no expert) the problem probably isn't a graphic card one (is it a 512mb card or 256mb) but could be the game being dragged down by the slow memory your using and the HD your using.

What type and size of HD you have?
Have you optimised your system recently(defrag, page file sizing, plenty of free space)
Make sure you AV and get rid of any spyware/malware regularly.

Once you have a clean system running if it still persists then stick your right index finger into your left ear and sing "I'm Special so special I've got to have some of your attention give it to me" if that doesn't fix it then no matter your friends and family will have you committed and you won't have to worry about the game

Is it Tuesday yet?

He's likely onto something here. Hitching isn't really a graphic card problem, it's a harddrive problem.

Have you applied any of the .ini tweaks yet?

I'll compile a complete list of them soon.

But most notably, upping your iShaderCacheSizeMD (probably want to start with 256) and changing the UsePrecaching setting to True.

Re: 8800 GTS hitching

Problem seemed to clear up, I have a SATA HDD 1.5GB/s transfer, also the memory is DDR2 533 pretty fast by todays standards.

Did you know that DDR2 memory does 2 instructions per positive and negative leading edge clock cycle (square wave).

DDR memory just does one instruction.

I think thats the difference am i wrong.

I will work with the shader setting and see if it helps, its not to bad know

Cool it worked great, no hitching it just flow through now. Except in Halgard once or twice but that city is graphically hard on my card for some reason.

Re: 8800 GTS hitching

Well thats as fast as I can use. I have all options check and running this on Highest Quality, with all sliders at 100%. I get 30-40FPS outdoors, with 15-20FPS in cities. I know its lots better than the 6800GT i had considering the game would be unplayable with these settings, is this game simply that much of a graphics monster, I have heard others running higher with this card.

I have a P4 3.0Ghz maybe thats an issue, the most I can go to is 3.8Ghz, dual processors are not a option on my board. Also wonder if this game would benefit from windows vista at all, seeing as it takes load off CPU on graphics stuff and puts that more on GPU, or do you only see this benefit when playing DX10 games.

Anyway wanted to see if these frame rates were normal, I would like to see higher frames in cities. But there is no denying of what kind of quality details I am seeing, buts its hard to believe that this DX9 game can be using up all my 640MB of memory.

Maybe DX10 since max texture size is twice the amount that DX9 can handle. Anyway more thoughts, other peoples 8800 experiences on this game.

Also on further note, i have read on other forums of people getting basically the same performance with max settings on this card so maybe its just normal.

Not right now. Vista is immature and the drivers are lacking. It's a universal performance hit when moving to Vista currently. That may change at some point in the future. I know I'm holding off until better performance is a reality.

It doesn't seem like bad performance at all. There's alot of eye candy on highest settings (much of it in draw distance). Cities are often bottlenecked by hard drives.

Something you can try is to on Occlusion while in town, and then turn it off outside of town. Sometimes, that makes a big difference for people - and sometimes not.
