Will Vanguard operate relatively smoothly with this computer?

That is much better than the computer I run on and I get over 30 FPS on balanced. It chokes a bit in town, but I have yet to ever play a game that didn't. So yeah, you should be golden with that rig...

Mine is...

Athlon 64 3500+
2 Gigs Corsair PC3200
ATI Radeon x850xt
MSI Neo4 Platinum Mobo

Ok thank you both very much for your responses. I feel much more comfortable with the purchase.

The only thing you might consider is, assuming you're in the US, the X1950pro is only $30 more than the 7600GT and it's a much better card.

Re: Will Vanguard operate relatively smoothly with this computer?

Well, I ended up going with the GeForce 7900 GS 256mb ddr3 @ 450MHz as the graphics card. What do you think? Is this similar in function to this X1950 pro you mention?

Oh, and also I upped the processor to 4200+ 2.2 GHz. Will that make a difference? (I hope it does cause....there goes every last dollar!)

The 7900GS is not as beefy as the X1950 pro, but it is comparable. I'd doubt you'll be too sad about the 7900GS

Well, of course it'll make a difference, but is it worth it? We can't tell you that without knowing what it cost to upgrade. I'd say the difference is about $30.
