Question 2GB to 4GB?

Has anyone done this upgrade?

I have a nice system, VG runs reasonably smooth... but the memory is the one area I could upgrade easily.

Currently 2gb are installed... would the upgrade to 4 do much?

It might be useful in some other areas (non gaming), so have been considering it.

If you have any XP other than Pro, it's pointless to go over 3 gb - it just can't put the rest to use.

As far as whether it's worth it, I can testify that it makes a huge difference to go from 1 to 2gb of ram. I've tested it on several systems to see how it goes and most of the time, it's 10fps or more.

I don't know anyone who's made the jump to 4 gigs. It sure wouldn't hurt as VG wants to use that ram. It'd help reduce pop-up, but you may find your video card limiting what you can do.

Pro can utilize more ram than any other version of XP. I don't know anyone who's done it, so I really couldn't tell you how much it'd help. If you have a kicking GPU setup, then you might give it a try. If you have a more reasonable card, then it'd probably end up as your bottleneck. All this is a guess, though.

a jump from 1 to 2G's will do WONDERS the biggest notice you will see is when you change chunks. Going beyond 2G's probably won't make a huge difference. The game was designed more for 2G's rather then more. you might notice a different but not sure if it's worth the headache of ordering more ram, getting it installed, finding out how to change XP to let you use the 4G's of ram.

Re: 2GB to 4GB?

XP Pro will even have hard times with more than 2gb. Make sure you have at least that and a good Vcard and you should be doing fine. If you are wanting to use more RAM, well, Vista is comming out very soon.
