Hucks in trble!!! AGAIN!!!
Ok Wife is going to kick me out but oh well!!!,lol.
The prob is im knew to the sli thing and I got to have one been reeding up on it a little bit ill give u what I was thinking then throw in your thoughts most of the componets on this computer will be the same as my first computer but with sli. I have not had any probs with this set up as of yet. 1.Mother board,K9N_SLI_Platinum (MS-7250) http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...tinum&class=mb 2.GeForce 7900 GTX x2 of course, or do u guys think that the 7950 GTX is that much better. I did see the bif diff on the ram 1g compared to 512 not sure if anyone has used this or theese cards yet so input would be great 3. 3 gigs of syncd ram or do u think im over shooting it with the ram I have 2 gigs right now of syncd ram. Gotta buy new of course cause son will be using the other comp for the game. so should i buy syncd or not a real big deal ? 4. 3 raptor hard drives raided (works great now) so i think im sticking to that for sure. 5. what about the Processor should i go with the. AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 San Diego 2.6GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADAFX55BNBOX. or the new AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester 2.4GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4600BVBOX or stay within a great budget and just get what I got now AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 2.4GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor. Think I would notice that big of a diff in perfomance with the new processor. Im not much of a multi tasker so no big deal for me on that part im all about graphics and performance and not laggin for sure. U know within means I Dont want the wife to get to mad,lol 6. By no means am I trying to come off as a computer geek or no!! it !! all!! so any advice would help out alot. or a diff system set up but i dont think im going to switch from amd thats for sure wanna keep all the comps pretty much the same. Thanks in advance with the help!! (HUCK) Last edited by huckleberry : 09-18-2006 at 05:50 AM. |

Re: Hucks in trble!!! AGAIN!!!
1. MSI boards have a pretty good reputation for being solid contenders. Im partial to ASUS myself but thats just a personal preference. My only concern is that you picked an AMD board which while AMD is a great processor, (all my machines are currently AMD) its not the fastest processor out there right now, the conroe core duo 2's are. Consider looking at the Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard if you go towards a conroe proc. Its expensive but has a ton of features.
2. Would seriously start with a single 7900 right now and see what it can do before you go blowing $500 on an SLI system for two reasons. First some games like WoW dont even support SLI so you have the same performance regardless. Second around mid next year we'll be well into DX10 land and you'll be buying new cards to support those features. Unless you will be playing a game that hugely benefits from SLI (like first person shooters) I'd pass on it for now. 3. Just go with 2 gigs for now. The benefit of going from 2 to 3 is no where near as big as 1 to 2. 4. If you have the raptors already sounds good. Overkill but sounds good. ![]() 5. Would switch over to a Intel E6700 conroe core duo 2, its the best bang for the buck out there right now.

I agree with Piro except on the Intel but I just hate them they do have the fastest proc atm.

Re: Hucks in trble!!! AGAIN!!!
Yeah!! I had noticed the duo set up looks pretty nice but if all this is going to change maybe I should just stick with the a cheaper sli for now with 1 card and see how it works out. Was thinking of between the AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 or the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ .Not sure if there is that big of a diff on the fx-55 processor or not. Then just go with the 2 gigs of ram and the raptors and the single 512 sli card. Think that would be a good start then? and then ill wait on making a duo setup cause i want to live (wife would hate me for sure). So i guess my biggest thing is what about the fx-55 compared to the 3800+ is the fx better for the games or just wasting my money?

Re: Hucks in trble!!! AGAIN!!!
There is a decent bit of performance difference between the FX-55 and 3800+. The FX-55 is faster in every way when it comes to gaming. Here are some relevant benchmarks.
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2249&p=8 If it were me, I'd seriously consider the dual core processor over the two single core processors if you want to stay with AMD. The FX-55 is going for $279, the 3800 is going for $109 and the 4600 x2 is going for $235 so its a nice in between processor for the other two.

Re: Hucks in trble!!! AGAIN!!!
Awesome bench marks. That pretty much settles it for me guess I will be building a dual core processor system for sure. Not that big of a price diff and the bench marks are a lot better then what I was thinking. Thanks for all the help guys I appericate it!!!!
