edit: That sir is a sick machine. Depending on the setting syou like to play at though you may need to SLI before Vanguard.

Yeah, tax free is the win, the wife spending it all on curtains and furniture is FTL tho. I ganked and ran. I plan to SLI but just didn't see the need to do it atm.

By the time it will matter, he'll prolly be able to buy a nice DX10 card that will be better than SLI.

Nice rig Mel. Although like Nil said, you'd be better off getting a nice DX10 vid card and even running that single, than to do DX9 with SLI.

I was purely thinking of just vanguard which directx 10 wouldnt effect right away anyway. Secondly was thinking of making current parts last longer as I know I hate buying a part and having to completely replace it 6 months later. However the option of completely upgrading it is there however I do not find it necessary right away being that he just made this purchase. Guys remember directX 10 support will be like 9 was. There will be some stuff out of the gate that supports it but it will take at least 6 mon to be mainstream and a year to be the norm.

I'm well aware, and I don't recommend DX10 cards because they support DX10. I recommend waiting because those cards will blow away anything that is out there now in terms of power - and they won't cost any more.

Just look at the X850XT vs. The 9800XT, or the X1900XTX compared to the X850XT. Even taking out new functionality and each new card is just that much more powerful, yet, the 9800XT was $500 at one point, just as the top card next year will be.

Of course, we don't really KNOW, but I truely believe that the top of the line card in the next generation will blow away two of the current generation's top cards running in SLI/X-Fire, even if you don't count DX10, which I fully agree isn't worth worrying about (especially since you'd need to make the Vista leap first, and I'm not sure I'll ever buy another OS without it's first service pack).

edit: Besides, people pay inflated prices on ebay. I've gotten back nearly what I've paid for every card I've ever sold there. So it's not like you throw away your whole investment when you upgrade.
