Performance issues
After trying to play FEAR and having the difficulties I had and thinking I should not have had them because my system should be sufficient to run it well I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions as to how i might correct these issues.
Intel pentium 4 2.53ghz 1.5 gig ram GeForce 6800 gs 256mb if more info is needed lemme know |

Re: Performance issues
What resolution and quality settings were you trying to play it on? If you can copy down what settings you had on. It could be possible it was just set to high for the system or you had conflicting options turned on.

Re: Performance issues
the time when i had most issues was when i had cpu and graphics set to medium or higher, low was ok with still some freezing, and minimum worked well. But the thing is if i have enough for the reccommended specs and I cant even run it on medium settings? what is that, I can play eq2 all day long with no issues but i cant handle a first person shooter..just seems odd.

Re: Performance issues
Do me a favor and check if V sync is turned on. If it is turn it off and tell me if you have the same issue.

V Sync basically limits your video cards refresh rate so that it doesn't run more fps than your monitor can handle. Be sure to try Neatton's suggestion. What do you mean by freezing? You mean video lag? Or that it freezes and you have to terminate the program/reboot? An FPS is usually harder on your video card (though not your whole system) than an MMO game. It's not a good idea to compare the two. I don't own fear, but I know it supports Open EXR HDR. That option is greyed out, right? It's not trying to run HDR is it?

Re: Performance issues
By freezing i mean the game will pause with out my consent for 20-30 seconds and either come back to regular play or on some occassions reboot my system and when i get back i have had a windows stop error-or so says the report i get. Says something about a thread stuck in device or whatever.
Also is v sync an option in the game or with my card-where can i find it? edit- if hdr is an option in the game i also dont kno..dont know if i mentioned in this post or not, but aside from fear i just purchased Lord of the Rngs: battle for middle earth 2 last night. Simple RTS game not nearly as demanding as fear and I still got the freezing and 2 resets...only played for a short time, but given the difference in games and still the same issues..im at a loss. V-Sync and HDR are both options you should be able to enable in-game, though V-Sync is also an option you enable in your drivers. Another thing you might try is taking out one of your ram sticks. Filling all the bays of some motherboards can cause instability (maybe even memtest your ram).

Re: Performance issues
When in game go to the options screen. In there is where youll find the option for V sync. It will just have an On and Off option.
edit: The reason I want V Sync off is that there is a known or at least was a known issue with having V sync on along with another option which I can't remember. I had the same issue when I first got Fear and when I turned off V sync it was like night and day.
