What a GREAT site Vanguard Spheres provides. I joined the forums today and already have learned much regarding the next computer I should buy. I have not played games in a while, maxing out a few characters in WoW and becoming bored. I am very excited about 'Vanguard: Saga of Heros' in the near future.
The many comments and ideas read here in the forum, help me to determine what I plan to buy regarding a new gaming computer. Until recently, I thought AMD was the way to go for a processor, until I read the stats on the NEW Intel E6700 duo core 2 processor. Then the video card!? I was sold on Nvidea 7900 GTX or 7950 GX2 until I read about the DX-10 available soon (next generation video card). I'll probably go with the Dell XPS 700 unless someone would recommend another company. I'll sure look forward to reading and learning more in the forum... and by the time 'Saga of Heros' is released, I'll know enough to put together a system worthy of the game. Ocala |

I'd recommend pretty much any other company. Actually, I'd recommend that you build it yourself. It's really not as hard as you'd think to put a computer together. You'll save money, AND it's upgradeable. The thing to watch out for with Dell is that they often use proprietary parts and you can't upgrade them. On the AMD vs. Conroe issue, AMD really slashed their prices, so it's all alot more viable than it was. So now, it all depends on how much you want to spend. Buy a Conroe at $200+, or a X2 3800 at $100? Choices are good. I like choices. And everyone knows Radeon is better than Nvidia. (grin) |

Re: Much learned here...
Aye the price slashes on some of the X2 chips have approached or exceeded 50% off. While you may get better performance with conroe, its going to come at a premium, at least until they get production cranked up or AMD fires back again with their newest chip.

I like my Nvidia just fine - it is too powerfull for EQ2 right now - they havent fixed that bug (so i can outrun anything when I go into overdrive- have to reboot to fix - kinda annoying but workable). NVidia 7900 GS - was cheap too |

Welcome to VS Ocala.
Since you don't here this much but you always hear "Build it yourself" I'll say buy your system outright. Save the time and hassle of digging up all the pieces, making sure there compatable, assembling them, and installing the software. Rao (aka the anti-build your own pc guy) PS. Most of this was meant in jest. Build it or buy it just get something that fits your lifestyle and cash flow.

Re: Much learned here...
Machine building can definitely be a frustrating experience for newbies and veterans alike. If you enjoy tinkering though its all good. If you dont then buying is probably the way to go. Costs more but what is your convenience worth? Thats really what it comes down to. Good luck and if you decide to build feel free to post here and we'll help you out.
