Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

Out of the 2 CPU companies who do you prefer, and out Nvidia and ATI which do you people prefer.

Myself I like AMD.
At the moment and stuck between ATI and Nvidia as they both have really powrfull cards, I would say ATI as I have a ATI card now.

Re: Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

For CPU I prefer AMD. The reason is that benchmarks for quite sometime have shown that AMD runs games better then Intel as where Intel runs office products better and well im a gamer. Also I have been a fan ever since they were better priced then Inter. Even though the price gap is thinning I do still love them go with the underdog!!

As for GPU companies I am an Nvidia fan for sure. I have never had a problem with any Nvidia card I have ever owned pop them in update the driver good to go. The one ATI card I tried just couldn't cut it. this was back when I played EQ and the card I upgraded to (ATI) didnt even run the game as well as the card I upgraded from (nvidia). I took the card back and have never looked back.

Re: Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

The GPUs for me have been the exact opposite to what you said, I had a Nvidia can't remember what model and I upgraded to the 9550 and its been alot better and alot less problems, but when i plan to upgrade I think i will go back to nvidia as they seem to be the company ahead now with SLI and the 7800GTX 512.

Re: Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

I only have a temporary preference for AMD due to better performance at lower costs. That may change in the future.

I like nVidia though. Both times I've tried ATi I didn't have much luck. The first time the drivers were ...odd... everything was overly brown and slightly discolored. This went on for several months before an update. The most recent time, with the x1900, there were no 64-bit drivers, additionally the cooler sounded like a kids plastic buzz saw toy.

Re: Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

CPU-wise, if it's dual core, 64-bit and works well then I'm okay with it. Slight preference for AMD I guess - mostly because of the performance.

GPU-wise, definitely Nvidia. I dread the sound of a plastic buzz saw toy...

Re: Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs ATI

I switch back and forth since I review all four each new generation. Right now Im AMD since their dual core architecture is superior to Intels AND they solved the problem I had with them two generations ago which was chipset support. VIA chipsets really sucked and sent me to the Intel camp for two years with my last machine. With the nForce4 chipset they are far more stable and Im back to AMD.

For cards Im currently on Nvidia as their SLI solution is more robust/mature in my view. I also see better benchmarks off the Nvidia cards though ATI appears to do AA better. My previous machine had an ATI card though as it was the best out there for that generation.
