And, tis the time to meet
Jill Henderson, or
GM Djembe. Some might know that word to mean a
type of instrument from West Africa, but in this case, no. This is the name of a hard-working GM at
Sigil Games now.
Great background follows Djembe here, and you'll hear some of that now, as we talk to a most interesting person. So grab your coffee/tea/Pepsi/Dr. Pepper and let's get busy!
Hi, Jill. Thanks for this time. We know you're all busy, so let's get going!
Q: You are the newest GM, so far. What is it like working at Sigil?
I love working here at Sigil. I have worked with several of the CS staff before when I was with SOE. Our department is fairly small right now, but even with our numbers it is fun to hear the banter among the GM’s. I am sure that no matter where a GM is employed the same conversations arise, one of our number one debates circles around names of guilds and players we are all very unique individuals and I like that.
Q: What is your background in gaming?
I love arcade games, and board games of all types. I have been playing computer games since I got my first computer, an Apple iie. My first MMORPG was
EverQuest and I fell in love with the community aspect of online gaming.
Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen as a GM?
I would think going to a fan event tops the list. In addition, the first time I performed an in game wedding. However, mainly it is the daily stuff, players’ names and stuff they do in game. I have even recently participated in a base-jumping video in game, which was a lot of fun.
Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
I love being a GM because it allows me to work with people, which is my lifetime goal. Recently I finished the Social Work program at USU and I enjoy taking aspects of working with communities on a social level, tying them to resources and in general making their life better. As a GM, I get to do all that in a fun and virtual setting.
Q: What class/race do you usually play?
My GM character is a Mordebi Psionicist. When I play, my main is a Gnome Cleric, something about playing in EverQuest’s Lower Guk that made being small a nice feature.
Q: What is the weirdest thing about working at Sigil? What might we be surprised to learn?
There are more females than I had expected, which is good.
Q: What specifically are you responsible for?
I do a lot with Customer Support email and in game support.
Q: We’ve seen pictures of your wonderful dogs, do you have any other pets?
Yes, I have two beautiful black labs
Mazzystar 8, and Frank Black 5, and I also have a calico cat named Kharma 3, she is named this because I ran over her with my truck, that is how I got her in the first place. She was a bit afraid that she had been left behind when I moved here to CA. but was relieved when we came to get her last week. Finding an apartment in CA that allows pets can be a challenge.
*looks around as a finger pops in the door and starts making "come hither" motions to the GM. I look at Jill with my lap still full of questions, but she asks to be dismissed. Seems like work takes precedence over fame!
Thank you so much. I hope we can talk again another time!!
And, so, that leaves us with one more interview, for now. Anyone know who that's going to be? And taking bets on how long it will take, between meetings and phone calls??
See you next week!
