Do we know our fate?
One thing that worries me greatly is the fact that we may end up with less health and armor class than that of a warrior, putting us in a rough position at endgame. Has anyone witnessed a dev mention anything of the stat comparison between the two? All I've heard of was "tanks the same but different secondary"...which is hardly solid evidence to end my worries.

Not only will we be viable Mr. Lightning, we will be just as wanted as a Warrior, Dreadknight or those sniveling Paladins.
/sneer As to the OP, you may have finally stumbled upon a game where the best tank is not necessarily the one with the most armor and health. And for that I rejoice. We needed something intelligent in a game, and I believe we got one. I plan on being a very intelligence-based tank, and watch for me in game cuz I'll be making waves. ![]() -Eclipse

The way Inquisitors are sounding, and that "create an opening" stuff Brad talks about, sounds like they might be a sorcerer's best friend. If so, I'd definitely be interested.
Kind of funny, I normally play a DPS class in other games, aside from the occasional Paladin. Yet Vanguard is the first game where when I was making my class list, I was greatly interested in 3/4 of the protective fighters (all but warrior... sorry warriors, you're dull). So I anticipate I might actually go tank this time around. Inquisitor is by far the most intriguing, which sucks since it's the least known about. Maybe Paladin next, tried and true for me from EQ. Dread Knight is last, but certainly not least, and at least ranks higher than any of the Offensive Fighters right now in my list. I heard a bit about Inquisitors using psionics, this true?

The only thing that I don't think would be beneficial to the Inq community would be the fact that although most tanks could tank to the same ability, will htey all be as desired in a group? For example :
Player1 yells: We are trying to do <random area> and we need a tank. Player2: Im a tank, can I join? Player1: You a Warrior? Because we need the high AC/HPs. If you are a paly, thats OK too, cuz you got some leet heals. Other than that, we don't want anyone else. Player2: Well, I'm an Inq, thats good enough right? Player1: No, there are no casters where we're going. Better luck next time. My point is, if the Inq is a class that is only good against casters, does this leave them weaker against other types, or leave them on par. Alternatively, if the 3 Tank classes other than War are on par with other classes than their specialties, and excel with certain ones (ie: Pallies vs. Undead, Inq. vs. Casters) then wouldn't this make the Warrior class seem gimped, if they areonly as good as others who excel in areas that they don't? Ok i know my post is hard to follow, but if you read it, I think it presents a good point. |

From what little I've been able to find, It looks like there might actually be a dual tanking system wherein it totally depends on what your going after is what you need.
Mage with Physical Minions: Inquisitor and War/Dreadknight Necro with Undead Minions: Inquisitor and Paladin Physical with Magic Minions: War/Dreadknight and Inquisitor Physical wiht Physical Minions: War and Dreadknight, etc. Off course, the paladin will be all shiny, the warrior battered, the dreadknight will exude a viable miasma of evil, the Inquisitor will exude that detectable aura of menace, neither good, nor evil, just the type of menace that makes grown men wet themselves when they meet and Inquisitor. |
