I believe inquistors will tank mobs that have no melee attack. Everyone anticipated mobs to be the same thing from EVERY OTHER mmorpg. Why do casters in everquest do more damage with melee then they do with there spells?
Answer: Because the tanks were build around the concept that the tank will be taking melee hits now does any mage class ever do most of its damage with melee? Answer: no because its a waste of time and effect when in 2 seconds you can out damage ur melee with 1 spell instead of hitting it for an hour. so I believe they will be much like a warrior who fights against mobs who have no melee but shoot constant magic spells much like a melee attack except it ignores armor and can only be effected by resists. |

After playing MMOs for the better part of 10 years or so and an even longer time dealing with RPGs (video and table top) here is what I personaly want from Inquisitors.
At the begining as been stated with other fighter classes they should have the same basic skill sets and abilities. Swinging a weapon at a creature. In the next tier of abilities these weapon skills and abilities should move into stop opponents from casting, damaging thier mana pools and some form of stun/incompasate. Thier should be two paths for the inquisitor to follow, one offensive in nature and the other defensive. Call it Rightousness and the other would be Jihad or something heh. On the defensive side of the house an inquisitor would get mental abilities that would buff haste, stamina, criticals and spell effectiveness for self and trained up to effect the group. All skills in this path are meant to be beneficial to the group or self depending on level of training. All buffs in this paths will be linked to the inquisitors mind power pool as with the psi caster. On the offensive side of the house an inquisitor would get mental abilities that would debuff a targets speed, damage armor class and debuff that affect spell casting that will affect multiple targets depending on training level of the skill. This path is your more destructive path and again linked to the inquisitors mind power pool. Here you would have two distinct styles of inquisitor that would be fun to play and offer something other than just being another form of tank to a group/raid. Im also thinking possibly very short duration pets, something targetable and possibly short charms to add to the class. This class "should" be hard to play overall im thinking but when played well everyone loves them in a group. Limited use of illusions could be fun to. I would guess you could add another path that allows them to combine the def and off forms into one thats not as powerful on either side of the spectrum but has abilities from both schools of thought. I just personaly see the class as a nice tank that has utility in areas not covered by Dread knight and paladins. |

My wish list for the Vanguard Inquisitor: Martial Tank.
The monk and disciple classes are two of the more unique implementations of DPS and healers in MMOs. bring that same spirit to the Inquisitor. 1. Medium armor, yes I said medium. Either have his dodge, block, parry and avoidance through the roof, or give him a permanent ability akin to Dreadful Countenance that adds AC as the counter increments. 2. Jin! Major taunts and abilities taken from his Jin pool. Increases with certain attacks. 3. Martial attacks. Fists, matial blades, Claws. give him a cool style like Xing Yi or Ba Gua. 4. Counter/Absorb spells. Same as Sorc (do they even have counterspells anymore) Perhaps Spell absorption could increase Jin or Hate. 5. Psychic shield. Group protection. Constantly drains energy. I think the above would make for an excellent class. |

I'm hoping for a more interactive role to shield myself and my group from magical damage. I don't want auras. Auras are boring and uninteractiive. What I would like to see is time based activated abilities that allow my Inquisitor to reflect a bolt away from my group/myself. Hard to explain what I'm thinking here. Let me issue an example.
mob_01 begins casting Lightning Bolt III. [Lightning Bolt.....75%.....] Darkrom activates Pulse Control {Pulse Instant} mob_01 cast Lightning Bolt III. (15 damage, 385 absorbed) Darkrom's Pulse Control fades. (Reset 3 seconds...) Mob_01 begins casting Lightstorm Area of Effect I [Lightstorm......65%....] Darkrom activates Force Wall [Force Instant] Mob_01 cast Lightstorm I. (25 group damage, 375 absorbed) Darkrom's Force Wall fades. (Reset in 6 seconds...) See where I'm getting at here? In addtion to that, I'd like to see spell interupts, silences, and some stuns here and there. A magical intercept ability would be rather useful as well. We may not be the most effective tank in all circumstances. However, I could imagine us streaming through the raids soaking up direct nukes in front of other players of the raid party. If not the main tank for the encounter, we'd still play a major role in soaking up damage. |
