Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
Whenever I heard EQ2 was being built, I always waited for it to arrive so I could try it out. But all my good friends went to WoW instead of eq2, so instead of eq2, I just went to wow. But from what I have heard of eq2 I am not missing anything. Which also i got really bored of WoW after about 4-5 months, so I stopped playing and started playing EQ again for the heck of it, but nothing hardcore. I would just play around on some alts and etc.. I also play an FPS mod, and I spend most of my time playing it since I am the leader of a clan there, and usually pretty busy taking care of stuff. But I have informed them after Vanguard comes out i'll be stepping down to just a reg member cause most of my time will be focused toward it hehe ;P

Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
I consider myself a refugee... From WoW. Kind of.
Perhaps it's because I haven't been able to play for a while - or maybe I'm just fed up with the game having played it way too much. Still, I'll probably play it for a bit when I get over my post-surgery issues - and until Vanguard comes out. |

Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
Well yeah i guess i am definately a refugee. I played EQ for about three years, did the family guild thing and the high end raid sceene then i realized i felt EQ was more work than the Navy was so two weeks after WoW came out i moved to it. I tried to take my time and enjoy the game not just plow through it since i knew they had no end game (I am still a HUGE fan of the aa system that EQ uses, even if there is nothing left for me to raid i can still better my toon how i want.). Eventually though of course i did find the end game and felt kinda bored and out of place. I stuck with it for about a month more and when the honor system was first released i felt ruined. so i packed up and went back to EQ.
I took it slow for a while just playin around with my friends (whom never left eq even to this day) but i eventually felt the pangs of missed raids so i joined a raiding guild again and before i knew it i was Working all over again. Again we got to end game and put it on farm status and i was content for a while but of course i had been keeping track of WoW as some of the guys i work with still played it so i switched again. WoW was new and exciting once again but again after four or five months i felt bored and disconteded. DDO was on the horizon and i wanted to try it. Coming from the old Pen and Paper (PnP) game i thought this could be the game i was looking for. Well three days into the headstart event and i knew it was not for me. I loved their adherance to the old PnP rules and thought the game was graphically stunning but they limited themselves too much i mean who played the PnP game and did not want to try out a race that was completely fantasy like a minitaur or orc etc... DDO let me down with only four races all of which looked humanesque. Well after that let down i wanted something, anything that would again immerse me into a Fantastic World so i tried EVE which i hated, i want to see my toon grow and mature and change not the space ship i ride in, so then i tried RF Online and after evnetually getting the game controlls the way i wanted them i enjoyed a month or so of the game and then i was done. Somewhere in the mix of EQ and WoW i attemted to take up Guild Wars and hated almost everything about it. It was Visually awsome but the excessive instancing, the not being able to alter your hotkeys after you entered an instance among many other things turned me off to it as well. So am i a refugee?? Heck Yeah i have enjoyed my time in EQ and loved it for what it was at the time but the old graphics, the constant expansions that you feel compelled to buy for little content, and the endless headaches it caused eventually put me off of it and i have tried every game i thought could replace it to no avail. I am in anguish awaiting the arrival of Vanguard i hope that it fills the hole that EQ has left (especially hoping the bard class is everything i loved about the bards in EQ). Taiisien |

Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
Welcome, Taiisien!
![]() I played WoW and Guild Wars, and I totally agree with you regarding GW's excessive use of instancing - it's just not good enough. I guess if you're a hardcore PvP'er it might be a fun game, but even then I'm not sure. I also hated the lack of information given to you by the interface - perhaps it's better now, but I'm all about playing ES3:Morrowind right now, so I can't be bothered to check, haha. Once again, welcome. ![]() |

Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
I quit WoW almost a year ago and haven't played an MMO since. None caught my eye besides Vanguard and now Granado Espada (Korean game, doubt many here would care for it but I dig the art.)

Re: Are you an MMO refugee?
I loved EQ so much that it still grieves me to think of my character and the times I had in Old Norrath. But the game evolved away from all the things that attracted me. Especially post-PoP, when the only way to advance meaningfully was raid, raid, raid ... I was a guild leader for years, and hung in for the sake of my guild, but my heart had already left the game. It took nearly two years, but when I finally found someone I could trust to take over the guild, I quietly retired and disappeared from Norrath.
I was an EQ2 beta tester, and I loved the game at first. But after only a year from release, I found myself bored with it. The world was too small, there was too little to do. I felt like I was repeating everything I had already done, with harder monsters. I feel they spend too much time making the graphics and appearances too advanced at expense of the game play. I stopped playing at the end of 2005. I have been amusing myself with WoW since, but it has already grown somewhat stale. Blizzard did one thing right - Azeroth is a well detailed world, with lots of ways to customize your character, and a very in-depth world to explore, and lots of different ways to play in it. But WoW has two flaws. First, the graphics are really horrid. Textures that look 2D, even when on the face of a mob - yech. Hands and feet on player models ... yick. It's not very visually appealling, even if you are OK with the exaggerated cartoony aspect of the world (which I can tolerate, but I wouldn't say I like it). But worse than that is the community. I sometimes think everyone playing WoW is 13 or under, and has been recently pummelled in Dodge Ball at school. The imbecile, chip-on-the-shoulder, immature attidues are maddening. I know there are class players, and have even run into a few, but they are mostly quiet, an you have to search for them. The in-your-face-majority are infantile children. There is not even a pretense to courtesy, no respect for what you are doing, or how their actions will intrude ... unannounced, unsolicited invites to groups, to guilds ... kill steals, harvest steals, ninja-looting of treasure chests ... these things are the rule rather than the exception, and people think you are crazy if you say anything about it, its that rampant and accepted. So .... I find myself not really happy with any MMO I currently have access to. I look forward to Vanguard most because it is being made by some of the original team from EQ, and I hope to recapture at least some of that magic.
