The relation between the env and the music was really important in EQ, in riverdalle when you entered it was very cool .. go to the forest at night and the background sounds were scrary lol I perhaps will disable the sound a bit when crafting cause i prefer background sounds like hammer tinting, forges shuffles, wook craking or chimics explosions but when i will adventure outside .. of course sound ON ![]() Myrr

Re: Do you plan to play Vanguard with music on or off?
Every MMO I have played (and I've been at it for 10 years or more), I started with the music on, got sick of it, then shut it off. I love sound effects and environmental sounds, but the repetative nature of MMO music grates on me after a while - I'm just very sensitive to it. I don't listen to any music over and over ... the more I love it, the more likely I am to loathe it if I hear it too often. So my answer is I will play with sound on and music off, and none of my own instead either, just the world noises.

I'll play with the music on for most of the time. Occasionally I'll use my own music, but my own will always be a nice celtic track or some Enya. Something fitting.

Re: Do you plan to play Vanguard with music on or off?
I like the ambient sounds and being able to hear what I'm doing. For some reason the music gets lost on me because most of the time I'm so intent on the noise of the actions around me that I can't even tell you if the music is on or off. Those times I'm travelling I'll hear the music, but then i'm usually chatting on TS or Vent so I'll miss it anyway. It sounds like they are taking all of this into consideration though, so I'm looking foward to it!

Most of the time I am using TS or Vent so I have the music cut off. Likely I will be doing the same here.

Quote:
I look at it this way. I wouldn't watch a movie without the score, so why would I play a game without it? The music is part of the game's story, and I most often it works better than anything I'd bring in, in large part because my own music brings my own set of assocations with it, of friends, family, places I've gone and things I've done, and I'd just as soon forget about those things when I'm playing and immerse myself in that world. Same for sound effects ... they add so much to the world and I can't imagine turning them off. |
