New world lighting screenshots
We have quite a treat this morning. Sigil has released 6 new screenshots of Telon with the new world lighting system enabled. Take a look! We also have two new articles to draw your attention to this morning. Raya of TenTonHammer has published an article entitled "Excuse Me, But Your Funny Bone Is Showing". In her article, Raya recounts some of the humor of her experience in Vanguard and explains how it can build relationships and make the game so much more enjoyable. Jacmac of XVanguard has published an article as well entitled "Area of Effect Groups: A Lost Art". In his article, Jacmac laments the loss of the Point Blank: Area of Effect groups prevalent in the Luclin expansion of EQ. He goes on to describe how the groups worked and hopes to see them in Vanguard again. Forum Debrief:

Re: New world lighting screenshots
At last Vanguard is begining to put the finishing touches to the graphics. Still reflections and shadows missing and anti-aliasing is switched off.
Mo-cap is not finished yet so we may still have top wait a bit for movies. would be nice to see a bit of weather in next set of screenies. |

Re: New world lighting screenshots
Even the world lighting has made a big difference but the AA will probably be the other big step forward as far as how screenshots look quality wise. Im not sure I've played a recent game with shadows on as they always seem to lag even the best machines on the market to a crawl.

Re: New world lighting screenshots
I have to admit, for the past couple of months I've certainly understood where some of the community was coming from when they were whining about the game not looking up to par. These recent batch of screens pretty much put my mind at ease. The detail on all of these screens are just amazing.. I actually thought to myself "I've got to play an orc warrior now..". I really can't wait to see some of these models in motion as they have come an insanely long way since the E3 racial preview video clips.
After the E3 video, and all the talk of models using the same "skeleton" to be built upon so that they could reuse as much of the models as possible for memory reasons and what not I was really a bit concerned that every model was going to look exactly the same with a different head. If you look at the Orc and the Goblin screenshots from this batch you can definitely see the subtle differences starting to emerge and I'm now confident that every race will feel and look unique despite the model reuse. There are some obvious things that still need tweaking (like the mitten hands) but from what I've read on the official forums that will be fixed when the new animations go in. All in all an exciting batch of screens. ![]() |

Re: New world lighting screenshots
This new batch of shots is insanely gorgeous; the new lighting system really added another dimension to the visuals. All of the concerns I have are repeatedly countered in every new batch they send out. I'm down to really nitpicky stuff, that's easily correctable and most likely will be pre-release.
The orc model looks really cool, as does his armor. Overall, I'm extremely happy and looking forward to future screenshots (I think Kesmos said some more would be surfacing soon (from fansites?). |

Aye Lycrist, seemed like that was what he was implying.

Re: New world lighting screenshots
So that's what was different about those screen shots. It was obvious there was something different about them but I wasn't sure if was the location of the game world or the computer it was running on. Nice to see that the dynamic lighting is in now and it seems to be working great. This also probabally means that the affiliated sites will likely get sent some new exclusives in the near future as that seems to be the usual patern with how they been doing screenshots lately. Start with a half dozen or so on official site then send a couple of exclusives to each of the fansites. Still awesome to see though and can't for the great day when I will be able to buy the game and start travelling that lovely game world.

Re: New world lighting screenshots
Wow I really like the sky in those shots. Too many games now have really crappy non-immersing skies.
Sometimes I like to look up to the sky and see the clouds slowly moving or the stars shimmering. Those shots make me feel like that will happen.
