Do you know someone who is the poster child for your MMO? Someone so dedicated that they walk around bloodshot and sleep deprived in their favorite wrinkled gaming T-shirts and baseball caps (what else would they be wearing?). Someone who goes so above and beyond the call of duty helping other community members in-game, out-of-game and everywhere in-between that they’re practically an online Mother Theresa? Well, they just might be the perfect candidate for SOE Player of the Year and we want to know more about them!

So says the news that SoE has put out regarding Fan Faire activities. Read about the contest and see if anyone comes to mind.

Forums Maintenance for Monday July 2, 2007 @ 10:30 AM PDT

The downtime is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long. The purpose of the downtime is to improve the overall performance of the forums; it will also fix the issue with the Dev Tracker on the EQII Forums. We are also adding new icons and avatars that celebrate Summer. We hope you enjoy them.

All forums will be affected.

And, one more thing I'm finding interesting is the new screams about gaming addiction. Now they're saying they want "more studies" about it. There was an article yesterday, but the one today sums it up. It's just gotta make ya wonder....

I don't recall the whole "scare" as being anything new. Internet addictions are no different from any other addictions. Some people have naturally addictive personalities and as such are much more likely to fall victim to one addition or another whether it be alcohol, gambling, or the internet. I don't see why people are making a big deal about something that has been known for many years now.

It's not new at all. It's just something that some people see as "job security" and a way to get grants to study, imo.

Addictive personalities are just that. I've done other articles on this in the past, and to rephrase one part, it doesn't matter what it is: Golf, fishing, booze, games.... I think the issue is that it's happening to people at a younger age, which would tell me that they're seeing who has that type of personality earlier. This should be a flag to parents and they should find a way to help the kids while they have a chance, before it gets detrimental!
