New Sauce on Cleric, Shaman & Disciple

Hey folks, just wanted to give you the heads up. Of course, if you follow any sort of dev tracker, you probably read this stuff already... But since the OVFs are slowly becoming painful to read, I thought I'd post the quote here for discussion on the new infos

You have many useful rights - which do you use for this battle? Find you are the second healer in a powerful group...load up some damage spells and swap to your damage improving combat form.

Shaman - Gains a portion of his spells from bonding with a parton Spirit. You choose, via vision quest, which of the patron spirits you will follow, and become a shaman of. Your choice will determine what you bring to the table. Did you choose the patron spirit that will provide you with haste and accuracy, or the one that provides endurance and endurance regeneration? Shaman who follow Hayatet the Phoenix provide amazing fire resistance and fire counter sheild...facing the dragon w/o this amount of Fire resistance will certainly prove more difficult...do you know a Shaman of Hayatet? I think I might prefer to group with a Shaman of Tuurgin - The damage buff that the bear spirit provides is way nice.

Disciple - Going into beta today. Been playing him for a few weeks on beta..cause I am a dirty cheater. Martial healer. I have 4 attacks that can be chained together in a variety of ways. 1 attack is a small HoT on my defensive target. When I use this attack at the end of a chain it becomes a large instant heal. This is of course supplimental to my standard heals - but the point is that I can do some 'ok' healing while kicking NPC buttocks. Then, I have Focused Bonds. They are continuous single target buffs and debuffs. I can only have one active at low levels, two and three as I level...which do I choose? Give my ranger buddy a great damage buff, or make the transfer some of my endurance to the shaman, who needs endurance to power some of his spells? Then - I have great counter attacks - only really work when I am getting attacked - Enormous debuffs, nukes and even paralysis are what awaits those who choose to attack me.
Exciting stuff, though I'm likely not going to play a healer

Re: New Sauce on Cleric, Shaman & Disciple

I usually make a healing class alt (incase they ever have a huge demand) and I knew I didn't want a Blood Mage. After reading this, I'm still just as stuck; it looks like Vanguard will have some great choices for healers.

The whole specializing as a Shaman sounds really cool and I love the idea of being a Disciple. I have always been a fan of a cleric as well. I guess only time will tell...

Re: New Sauce on Cleric, Shaman & Disciple

I might play a healer. I like the sound of the Disciple and the stardard Cleric. Nice to see Cleric getting some good nuke ability to be a secondary dps for a group if needed.

Although, I would hate to say it, WoW completely changed my playstyle. I got so burnt out on my Dwarf Priest in beta that come production I rolled a Warrior. I wish I didn't burn myself out on the Priest because in that MMO I think I made a better Priest than I did Warrior. But now, I just might be looking at continuing the trend in Vanguard by going back to the fighter.

Re: New Sauce on Cleric, Shaman & Disciple

I played a druid in WoW - when I wasn't on my rogue. And, to be honest, I was good at it. Healers were so far between in WoW that you better not blame yours without a good reason - and most people didn't.

People who blame their healer for what is most likely the entire group's fault - or one single entity in that group's fault, for that matter - are idiots.

Just my $0.02 on this issue.

Back on topic, I can't see myself playing a healer to being with simply because that's not my style.

Re: New Sauce on Cleric, Shaman & Disciple

I played a horrible druid in WoW Beta Well, I was a horrible healer anyways... I still had fun with the "alternate" playmodes though

So, once retail came around, I decided to do Hunter instead. Much more succesful there.

In FFXI, I had a brief run as Red Mage as my second job to 60... But I enjoyed the melee classes far more, taking up Dragoon, Ranger and Monk up to 60+ in some cases.

I think melee is just where I fit in the best. I CAN be a good tank, but don't like the multitasking and group-leading it entails. I CAN be a great healer, but again I prefer to be the guy that's responsible for kicking the most ammount of arse without getting touched

To be honest, I'd take any class if only I could play Vanguard RIGHT NOW!
