The Sublime Permadeath Guild

After playing this game for quite a while I have decided to start up a permadeath guild for this game.

I am currently a senior member of a permadeath guild called The Sublime, which is our D&D Online permadeath guild that has been going strong since its launch, and is still going strong.

You can find out about us here:

http://altaholics.us/SublimeBB/

I have been playing games permadeath for several years now, especially MMOs. Why? Because it is the ultimate challenge. Over the years games where you can die hundreds of times over started to lose meaning and interest to me. The accomplishments you obtain while playing a game in permadeath are exceptional. After spending all that time building up your character, and finally running into the boss room and seeing that 50 ft flaming giant running at you knowing this could be the end of your character. Words don’t explain the excitement of moments like those in permadeath.

NOTE: Permadeath is not for everyone. Players generally play through the game slowly and explore the world intently, and appreciate the items that drop off of mobs, and trade intently within the guild, and communication while grouping is paramount. Its takes a very patient, and focused mind to play a game within permadeath style.

Some commonalities of permadeath:
- You will die a lot, and start over a lot, it’s the nature of permadeath as you learn the game. Many people can be frustrated by this.
- Seeing high level content in the game will take a very, very long time, if at all. The whole point of permadeath is to experience the game as an exciting, ultimate challenge, not to get to max level faster than everyone else in the game.

Many people who still may be interested in this style of play may still want to go through the game in a non-permadeath setting first since they want to see all new areas, zones of the game, then perhaps try permadeath later. I myself would rather see it in time while playing permadeath, so that is why I will start up this guild at launch.

With all that said, and people are still reading this, then here are the guild rules. These are similar to our Sublime Guild rules for DDO:

THIS GUILD IS BASED ON THE HONOR SYSTEM! Until a game makes a permadeath server, it must be done this way. It is actually very simple to play this way. The main thing to remember is that “you die, you delete”. If anyone breaks this rule of trust you are instantly banned. That has never happened in our Sublime Guild yet.

1. You die, you Delete! ( read other rules that explain more about this )

2. NO outside trading with other guilds, or grouping with any other guilds! (PUGs) The reason for this is that non-permadeath players have their own economy systems based on going into high level areas and farming many rare items and large amounts of money. Our guild must earn these types of things ourselves. It sounds like we are a completely isolated society, and technically we will be, but its not as bad as that sounds.

3. Character types to play: ANY. Non-standard player builds are actually welcome, and if you can believe, more useful in a permadeath setting

4. Roleplay: light. Playing permadeath is more about managing your character, and see if they can rise to the challenges ahead.

5. Voice chat: Absolutely yes, communication is key

6. NO SPOLIERS! Many people who play permadeath work hard to get higher levels to see original content and want to experience it for themselves, even if it means their deaths. However, that does not mean you have to die with them

7. No zerging. For permadeath this seems like a no-brainer, but there are times where some people have been through an area several times, but someone in your group has not, let them enjoy the area for the first time like you did once.

8. Upon death: Generally you must start over from scratch, and just delete your character. However there is usually always that one item that you always had that you hold dear and want to keep, so transferring one item to your character is allowed. If there are group members near your corpse and they know you have something that they absolutely want, they may have an item as well if they wish.

9. Exceptions to death: Only KNOWN DEATH BUGS are the exception. Lag is NOT an exception! For example, DDO had a known bug where if you stand on certain corners of a dungeon you took an extremely large amount of instant falling damage several times and died from it, so that was an exception. However there was a bug where a mob was doing much more damage that was not intended for that mob and killing people. It was not a known bug, so those characters must be deleted.

10. Server: Woefeather.

Please discuss if you have any questions, and remember to check out our Sublime guild forums to see how such a community was build and maintained.

Thanks,

Carradine
