Charter

Pirates of the Grimsea is a guild concieved by a group of real-life friends with the purpose of providing a community for mature gamers interested in casual advancement and hardcore roleplay.

Our Goals:

1. Develop and maintain a rich roleplaying community.
2. Organize, build and maintain a player-run city.
3. See every member of the guild in posession of a ship.
4. Advance through endgame content at a casual pace.
5. HAVE FUN!

--------------
The Pirate's Code

Regarding Speech

1. Speak in a manner befitting a Pirate of the Grimsea - do not obscure your meaning with terse abbreviations or blather on 'till your mates want to hang you from the yardarm. (( Always roleplay your character in /say, /shout, and /guild. /group is optional, and /ooc, /whisper, and our own /gpooc will be reserved for out-of-character conversation. And for the love of god, no AIMspeak in the IC channels, and as little as possible in the OOC. ))

2. Cursing is often appropriate and sometimes encouraged, but gratuitous obscenity will not be tolerated. (( Kids play the game too, so keep public chat channels fairly clean. ))

3. Use of foul language directed at natives, regardless of the situation, will not be tolerated under any circumstance. Handle yourself in a respectable manner at all times. (( Remember that there is another person behind the character that you may be upset with. Even if you're right, cursing at other players only makes us look like jerks. ))

Regarding Interaction Among the Crew

1. Cunning and Treachery serve a pirate well, but not among other members of the crew. Treat your mates with respect, and you make for a stronger ship. (( Love thy brothers. ))

2. Be generous to your crewmates. Let them have the first opportunity to obtain equipment and items that you don't need. While no one is expected to just give things away, be fair if you do ask for something in return. (( Be generous to you fellow Pirates, and they'll be generous to you. ))

3. Do not go out of your way to undermine your mates. (( Don't ever kill-steal or ninja from a guildmate. If you see a Pirate working the same area as you, ask to join them or come back later. There's plenty of Telon to go around. ))

4. We're all aboard the same ship, and the sea is a harsh mistress. We band together under a common flag to increase our odds of survival and our plunder, yet every pirate must remain his own master. Don't hesitate to ask for aid in any matter - but don't be offended if your request is denied. (( Guilds are formed to help each other out to mutual benefit. Ask for help if you need it, but don't be upset if others are occupied at the moment or otherwise unable to help. You may always request, but never demand. ))

5. Do not speak for your crewmates, unless specifically asked to do so.

Regarding Fraternization with Non-Crewmembers

1. When divvying up the spoils of battle, be fair to strangers and generous to crewmates. It is just to put your needs on a par with the needs of others, but be sure to put the needs of others before your desires. (( Everybody needs money for training, but you can often find better equipment than you can buy. Equipment upgrades get top billing, and then trade skills. Sell price should be your last consideration. ))

Regarding Plunder

1. If a piece of booty will help your efforts from the moment you don it, then that is NEED. Anything else is GREED. (( If you're going to put it on right then, roll Need. Otherwise Greed. Pilfering unecessary loot makes us look like common brigands. ))

Regarding Recruitment

1. Only an Officer of the ship may invite others to the join the crew.

2. Prospective crewmembers shall have read and understood the Pirate's Code prior to being invited to join.

3. Prospective members shall either have filled out an application at the docks or been sponsored by a current crewman and been interviewed by an officer to assess their fitness to become a Pirate. They will then undergo a two week trial period, at the end of which the crew will be able to put their membership to a general vote.

4. Any crewmember who jumps ship and has since decided to return shall only be made a crewman again with the express permission of the Captain.

Regarding Promotion

1. Ship's Officers are chosen by the Captain with the advice of all currently serving Officers.

2. Promotion from Crewman to Mate requires the sponsership of any Officer, and must be confirmed by at least two other Officers to become official, even should the Captain be the sponsor.

3. Promotion from Landlubber to full Crewman is contingent on a majority vote from the crew. The induction of a new Crewman may still be blocked if it is objected to by three or more Officers, even should the Captain himself object.

Regarding Beaching

1. Fellowship among the crew is a value we try to cultivate, and for this reason any Pirate who has not been seen on deck for more than 21 days shall be left ashore at the nearest port unless reason for the situation has been discussed with the officers. (( Anyone who hasn't logged on for 21 days will be removed and notified by in-game e-mail. If you forsee a prolonged absence, simply tell an officer, and we'll make sure not to remove you. This is designed to remove players who do not keep in touch or those who have stopped playing. ))

2. Removals shall occur on the first weekend of each month.

3. Removals shall only be performed by the Captain.

Regarding Captain's Mast

1. In an effort to insure that issues are handled as quickly as possible, these procedures are provided for cases where a crewmember feels that he or she has been wronged in some way.

2. Issues concerning only Crewmen or Mates shall be handled by the Bo'sun. Issues concerning one or more of the ships Officers shall be handled directly by the Captain.

3. For domestic affairs involving only crewmembers, all efforts shall be made between the parties involved to resolve the issue without involving the Bo'sun.

4. Any affair concerning an individual who is not a member of the crew shall be handled by the Captain if the is available, or the Lieutenant in his absence.

Regarding Disciplinary Actions

1. Only ship's Officers shall have the authority to enforce the Pirate's Code.

2. If no Officers are available, authority rests with the seniormost Mate or Crewman present. This authority shall only apply to friendly reminders reguarding the Code and notification of the Bo'sun about the incident.

3. The Bo'sun shall be responsible for handling disciplinary actions among the Crew, such as demotions or removals. The Captain holds the same responsability for the Officers.

4. ALL Officers are authorized to demote and, if necessary, remove members from the Crew in extreme situations when the Captain and Bo'sun aren't available. Abuse of this power will result in severe consequences.

5. Any type of disciplinary action may be appealed to the Captain. If the appeal is turned down, it shall not be pursued further by any party.

6. Any disciplinary action shall be publicized to the Crew, including the reason, and noted in the Officer archives.

Regarding Prize Crews

1. From time to time, another Crew may bow before our prowess and request a merger. These integrations can be very beneficial to the Crew.

2. Crew mergers shall be approved by the Captain.

3. Welcome the new crewmembers as brothers and sisters. Do not let old rivalries spoil what can be a great union.

4. The joining members must each and individually undergo the standard evaluation period and vote by crewmembers. Once their initiation is complete, treat them not as one who has come from another Crew, but as the full and true Pirate of the Grimsea they are.

5. Former Captains may be offered any open ship's Officer positions, and failing that, will be immediatly promoted to Mate upon completion of their intiation.
