Patcher issues
Seems the patcher /updater is getting slower and slower. It often takes as much as 15 mins to get through the checking for updates/patching routine and finally getting to the play button.
Also seems to constantly download and install the same files over and over evertime I log in. While I guess this is because I load the live then hit the test button first, I just wish there was an easier way to play on test without having to go through the live patcher first. If its changing files each time then that seems quite cumbersome to me. I mean if I finish on test tonight, then log in tomorrow it changes things to live version, then hit test button and it changes it all back again doesnt seem very efficient to me. It seems to take forever to do this depending on what files get updated etc. Sometimes the patcher hangs and I have to shut it down and go through it all again. Can we not get a simple way to go directly to the test server (EQ had no problems with this)? It would make life oh so much more enjoyable. regards |

EQ had no problem with this because they had a completely separate set of downloadables for test (double your disk space, double your fun, chew wrigglees ... oh sorry). Vanguard's test environment is essentially a set of overrides to the live environment and thus usually much smaller.
The way I handle things is to have a separate icon with /testserver at the end of the target line (outside the quotes). The problem is, as I understand it, that you have to be sure your live version is up-to-date before using this; but as long as that is true, you only download when there have been changes. It serves you best if you log on to test several times a day. You still need to bring up the live launcher whenever there might have been changes to the client (which is fine for people like me that play both places).

I actually have mine set up with seperate shortcuts as well, tho I find my self waiting at the file check window at times for a couple of minutes, before it actually starts to show any activity, ie. bar moving, files listed as being scaned. This isn't all the time tho. I can play 3 times in a row and have everything run almost instantaneously to the play button, and then that 4th time will pop up and ill sit there wondering wether vanguard went to get tea.
Not really something I can bug, since i have no idea how to produce it or MAKE it happen, but it seems to be there.
