That's undoubtedly a very sweet rig, but I just have to know what it ran you.

Vanguard isn't going to be able to keep up with technology at it's crazy rate just yet, let it get out the door stable before they go optimizing code for dual video cards/processors. Also "updated 8800gtx support" probably has just as much to do with NVIDIA's drivers, as it does with Vanguards code/optimizations at this point. They are both new.

Re: My Alienware Rig

Alienware is overated and overpriced. It would have been cheaper to build it yourself.

On that note I'd like to quote one of my forum members.

Yes I COULD build my own but frankly it is worth the money to me to NOT build my own.

Also, since I wanted dual core processers on the high end, a raid HD system, SLI'ed cutting edge Nvidia Cards, 4 gigs of ram ultra high speed ram and the newest sytem board and sound card on the market when I bought it, I spent the extra cash.
I have an alienware as well. I spent 3k dollars when I bought it, and It has lasted and is still going strong for 3 years. All my smart super I'll build my own buddies might have spent 800 dollars when they first bought it, but they're still paying for switching out motherboards, cards, and etc. While I'm actually playing the games.

Re: My Alienware Rig

I'm all too aware of the "smart" self builders that aren't.

For $3000 I can build a PC thats more powerful and more stable and much more future proof than alienware can provide you. Using all the same or better parts.

The main reason people buy alienware is to boast they can "splash out" the kind of ridiculous prices they charge.

There is no guaranteeing that you wont be swapping parts with the alienware either. Which will cost you time if nothing else.

Edit: I should point out that I've nothing against pre-built systems. Just there are far cheaper places out there that provide systems of similar or superior build quality - you just have to take a little extra time to find them.

Re: My Alienware Rig

Building your own saves a ton of money. And you know exactly what is inside your box. Aleinware's "Approved motherboard"....sorry I like to pick out my motherboard. Same with the RAM and sound card.

But hey some people like the buffer of a warranty and customer support. If you got the money to spend, why not?

Grats on the comp, have fun!

If your "I'll build my own" buddies would have built a top-end computer at the time, they could have matched your alienware for, in all likelihood $1k less.

That said, you can get pre-built computers that are every bit as good as the Alienware for much less money.
