My current Computer is a Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939, with 1gb of DDR Corsiar Dual channel, 120gb Seagate barracuda, Radeon 9550, Intergrated sound card (my Soundblaster live 5.1 digital died

Re: Raghajabooy's Rig
Sounds alot like the rig I just upgraded from. How extensive are you planning on going with your upgrade? As far as Creative and there sound cards go dont get me started. I own an audigy simply because there is no other option. They killed the market
Down with creative!!

Re: Raghajabooy's Rig
I am planning to spend about $1500 - $2000(alot of money for me, still at school), I don't know what I am going to upgrade to. But i would like a dual core cpu and at least, I would like a SLI ready sytem even if only running 1 card.

Re: Raghajabooy's Rig
With 2k this summer you should be able to build an entire new comp to about where my new comp is I would imagine prices will have dropped a little so that should be about right.

Seriously, what you have is by no means poo. I recently got my X2 4600+ for ~$525, sold my old 3500+ 1st gen core for $140. If you do something similar, you are still only at around $400. Pop in a high end GPU, that's another $500. If you absolutely must by a new 939 board (which I don't see why you'd need one unless you are on AGP) that's another ~$150 (though if you are going to change the MB you likely would just want to build to an AM2 with DDR2-800), add on another gig at ~$100, bam, that is what (not counting MB) like ~$1,000 total. You aren't all that behind save for graphics. ![]() I'd say do that - up to X2, +1 gig ram, + new GPU - and then save the rest for a major upgrade at/beyond '08 when the next socket comes out and has DDR3 with PCI express generation 2. |
