Character names

Time: When ever you decide to make a new character...(God this is fun.)


If you create a character either on the live or Test servers and you want to recycle the name by deleting the character. (As most of us are very attached to our names and all.) You are unable to reuse the name as the game still thinks the previously created character is being used.

I have tested this with totaly random names (and I do mean random) both on Test and on the live servers. On either side (live or Test) the game still shows a characters name is in use ...even if you just deleted him or if you deleted him several days ago. This is also the case after a patch or re-log so it's not a matter of the game servers (or my computer) holding the name in a tempoary buffer.

If anyone would like to confirm this to make sure the Ale hasn't gotten to me head please feel free...it only takes a minute.

Long story short we should be able to recycle our hard won names.

unfortunately i cant confirm this. i have deleted sepiid three times in a day when i was deciding on my main class.

ill try again once the server comes backup with a new toon

I didn't experience this with Ventot either recreated him about 7 times between lastnight and this morning before I settles on a Psionicist.

Although I wish I could get Venti and Ventos back Those are my names from live and beta but seem to be on some other account on the test server.

I have had no problems rerolling characters and immediately reusing the names on beta 5, live, or yesterday on test.

I suppose it's possible that someone tried your name right during that intermediate time. Sure, it's unlikely, but I guess it is possible.

That or the Test server is all wobbly right now and the database may not have purged your char names, especially if for some reason it thinks they're logged in, or something equally weird.

As someone suggested elsewhere, we may want to wait a few days before really panicking, since Test seems to be a bit pissy right now. It'll be more fun then anyway, we'll have more steam built up.

Using Live as a comparison, 19 times in 20 the name is reusable immediately. However there are cases where the name gets "stuck" per se. Eventually it should get flushed out.
