Item and quest database

Just wondering if you were going for these, I think I remember seeing someone saying something about it, so should we all be remembering all the items and quest we are doing, it would be cool if it all linked in to the wiki, you know you check out the orcs and there is a link to the orc newbie line of quests.

While waiting for the official answer, take a look at the [[Quest Timelines]] page. These timelines will be useful whether the quests are in a database or on wiki pages and need all the help they can get.

They probably have more info than will be needed after the quests are documented, but it is useful to write some of it down now in shorthand.

Well unfortunately theres a rather large fiasco going on about databases right now. We have databases ready to go right now but they were built to be hand generated with the expectation that data mining applications wouldnt be allowed. It seems that expectation is not quite turning out to be true so we're holding off on releasing our databases until the situation is resolved since there arent many people who will use a hand-generated database if there is an automated one available.

If we are thinking of data mining for quests, we probably then need a page for each quest to contain the information we want to add that is not contained in the master database. Things that come to mind include:

• quest progression information for series (quest B comes after A and before C)
• suggested levels for solo and group
• spoiler info
• bug workarounds as needed (not that there will be any bugs, I just include this as a hypothetical use)

I assume that the page would then link to the mined data (perhaps crosslinked).

For things like items, the mined data may be all we want to display anyway.

Aye I wouldnt mind getting a mock database front end started in the Wiki as a proof of concept so to speak. We can then hook up the backend database pretty easily.

I can't stand databases, personally I think MS access was created by satan himself but anything I can do to help I will do.

I like the quest timelines that we've got a start on (Thanks, SwordMage!) It helps for those quests that have prereq quests.
