The RSSBOT and you!

I'm not really fond of Sites that use a news bot. The main reason is that it floods the forums with tons of posts. Some of them do not even pertain to the site.

So far The RSSBot seems ok. Still I log on on a daily basis and check the new posts. What do I see? more posts from the bot than from the forum members. Well at least not many new posts. This kinda disapoints me.

Out of 29 post so far only 1 has any replys. The average views is just above 16. The most commonly viewed threads deal with video referances, interviews and class previews.

I'd almost rather have a seperate window with just the titles of the info blurbs. Click on the title and it will take you to the appropriat site. Have I seen some thing so far that peaked my intrest? Guess Im not sure what I'm complaining about. Just that for some reason I'm not fond of news tickers in the forums.

Guess I'm ok with it. Only thing that sucks for me is, I'm at work and a lot of the links it posts are to the official site. Our work firewall has it flagged because its a gaming site and I can't go read the stuff. Just wish it would paste the text of the article here as opposed to simply a 'blurb' from it. But, thats just me.

I usually plow through all the VG fansites hundreds of times a day, having the bots makes it easier for a one stop shopping.

We must work at the same place as I feel your pain completely. VS is bound to take off one day because of it's talented crew. I dread the day as it will probably mean no more at-work access to my favorite VG site.

Its a system that periodically polls other sites, in this case the official forums, for specific posts and copies them here so people dont have to deal with that forums constant overloading. I have two ways of utilizing this, portal integrated and forum integrated. Portal integrated can be seen on the VS home page in the RSS feeds box on the bottom left hand side. Forum integrated can be seen in the Community Announcements section.

A better poll to have is which type of RSS do you prefer portal or forum?

I understand that Pirotess and I do scan the Home page version. I also view alot of the other site. The main problem I have with most Forum version is that they all show up in new posts basically spamming the new post pages. I don't even look at new posts on most site forums that use bots Due to the gaming world spam on most of them. Here its not so bad yet as it only lists Vanguard Related news. But for those who don't check in that often they will get quite a few new post hits but alot of them will be bot posts.

I don't ever see it getting that bad here as the official forums will fade away once the game is launched.

Yah at most the RSSbot will only be around a few more months though the affiliates are trying to come together and come up with our own system for once the game launches.

Ten Ton Hammer has a decent one that I'v seen around. Basically it shows the last 5 subjects. From interviews to editorials to Ask the Dev. Not to bad usually skip half of it as well since by the time I see it posted I'v probbaly already seen it somewhere else. Except for the editorials and class summaries.
