Re: What is this game all about
Hey Eightball. Welcome!
If you want to be introduced to just the gist of things, the new Vanguard flash site is a great place to start. If you're looking to read more in depth about what's planned for the game on release, there's also a great FAQ to check out.

Re: What is this game all about
I'm sure that if you read through the information out there on the game, those questions will begin to answer themselves.
However, if you want a few short answers: - Guild Wars is heavily focused on PvP, the PvE is mainly about training players for the team-based endeavors that its various PvP modes offers. - Vanguard, on the other hand is a very PvE central game. Grouping, teamwork, collaboration, are all rewarded elements to the gameplay. Community is central. PvP will still be offered, but not as a main gameplay element. - Guild Wars is heavily instanced, so much that the only common areas are towns and outposts. - Vanguard is 100% instance-free. You see everyone, all the time, as one large persistant world without loading times, even between continents. EverQuest in general is harder to place significant differences, namely because many of the creators are the same. However, the second part I mentioned about the game being absolutely seamless is a major difference. Also, gameplay-wise things are expanded greatly with much more diverse a selection of classes, what those classes actually do... With the addition of a fully robust crafting and diplomacy systems, equal in scope to the adventuring and combat. So, in a nutshell, those are some of the things that make Vanguard different from those two titles specifically.

Re: What is this game all about
As a bit of an EQ vet, from everything I'm seeing, it feels like "home" with a few major twists! Diplomacy, for instance. The classes appear to be similar, but with different abilities and stuff. There have been news releases on them that look very appitizing! Personally, can't wait for launch to see what all is really there!

The biggest thing Sigil has going for them in my opinion is they have designed the game with the knowledge that there will be expansions. That they will want to improve graphics, add items, characters new lands. THis is something EQ totally lacked from the get go. They had to hack anything new they wanted to put in. Re do the whole graphic engine for a graphics upgrade. The dev team plays or have played all the current and past mmos. They have drawn from these. There is a HUGE online community waiting for this game to come out. And are vocal about it. The dev team do watch all the forums out there. There have been changes in the game due to community input. Brads stated that there will be communication between the development teams and the online community when things will be changed. Why there gonna be changed. Hopefully that means there will be no ninja nerfs. One of my biggest pet peeves about EQ is the fact that they stoped talking to the players. Oh theres the offical forums but screw that. You cant ever report an ingame problem there. You have to use the petition command or bug command and then you usually get a canned response. I hardly ever saw a GM over the last two years. and when I did they were simply handing out cookies in PoK and advertising an event in the arena. A best of the best or similar types of contests. Hehe Ok I better stop. I can go on forever about whats wrong with EQ. But I still like the game. Its a great game. If Vanguard is similar to EQ but they address all the problems EQ had and still has....Well sound like a game I want to play. Rao
