Dread Knight coming soon!

Elidroth posted this on the OVF:

I'm working on the Dread Knight right now as a matter of fact.. so it's coming along soon. I think people will be very happy with the design.

I think I'll leave the descriptions and sekret sauce stuff to Talisker since he's the one behind the designs.

As for how they're implemented.. When Talisker finishes the final design specs, then I go to work. As far as which classes come first.. well that's partly what we need to have in game so we don't wind up with 4 tanks and 1 healer, or vice versa, and part scheduling on coding for the specialized needs for the class gameplay.

Judging from that, the Dread Knight design is done, and now they are working on coding the implementation. Hopefully now that the design stuff is pretty much nailed down (at least the initial version) maybe we'll get some information.

I guess I have to decide as an Inquisitor, if I'm enforcing the Pally's church or the Dreaded church...
Any ideas?

I prefer the more straightforward "church of hitting things with lumps of shaped metal", warrior style

I made a fun little post about this on another thread....

/e takes a deep breath

----------------------------------

~I see it...

Paladin = Dreadknight

as

Warrior = Inquisitor

But on different levels of thought.
What does a Paladin stand for? Protecting the innocent, worshipping the pure God in a way that shares their power with the weak. Dreadknights are those who forsook this pure God in favor of a God or Gods who were perhaps less cliche, less in your face, or perhaps just seemingly more powerful and attractive. So a Paladin vs a Dreadknight is like a christian crusader vs a heathen knight, a Hun, a soldier who drew power from hell instead of heaven (according to the church) but who's to say which religion is good or evil? Not one of us can make that decision.

What about the other side of the spectrum?
I would go so far as to say that a Warrior is representative of neutral incarnate, or even to get very risky: Atheist. An Inquisitor represents zealotry incarnate. A Paladin has strong faith, but won't kill you for disagreeing. An Inquisitor will, and then probably kill your kids just to be safe. So when you have the Paladin vs Dreadknight, you have good vs evil, but on their own terms...And it depicts the churchy nature in a good light, whereas the Inquisitor vs Warrior depicts the churchiness in a bad light.

Both are necessary, but does it say anything about ourselves if we choose one of those classes? I would say it kind of does, but not the way you might think.

A Warrior is the ultimate pragmatic individual. He would probably worship whatever God fit his needs the best at any given time, whereas the Pally/DKnight likely have to give their souls to their chosen God. The Inquisitor is the ENFORCER of the faith, but I strongly believe that the Paladin's church, and the DKnight's church could both have Inquisitors.

You guys still with me?

I think I'll spare you from my rambling now...
Sorry bout that, and btw I love that song Jainn! ~

All the cool kids are evil Eclipse.

I had this whole elaborate paragraph that i was going to type out, and my mind just went blank, so i'll have to try and remember it. And since I moved into an apartment now, i have no internet, and can only post from work. So i'll have a few days to mull it over.

Cant wait to get more information about the Dreadknight. I usually play necromancers but my alt was a shadowknight on EQ. Sounds like DK's are going to be awesome!

Welcome to the boards QuinnDexter, going with the "blarg, death, death, death, fear me" angle then?

Thank you kindly for the welcome.

In EQ I wanted to play an SK however there was no blood and guts during the battle so it seemed kind of ho hum to me. Playing a necro was a bit better but just for the ability to travel around pretty easy.

With Vanguard I think I will try out the DreadKnight first and see how it works. I was always a crazy melee necro and loved close combat. So if they make DK's fierce enough I will switch over :mrgreen:

Welcome Quinn. I hereby dub you "The Second"

We Dread Knights are horribly outnumbered on the boards here. The only way i won't be playing a DK is if for some reason they decide to say that Dark Elves can't be them. Then I go on a rampage and be whatever melee a DE can be.

DE for the win!!!
