Xaices, Avair - Backlash Idea
Hello, wanted to throw this idea around.
Backlash needs to do what it says it does, obviously, but I wanted to address usability of what it says it does... I think these are the changes that make sense: 1) just like Dark Ward, or Ominous Fate, or our rescues, it makes sense to make Backlash deal % of dmg for X amount of hits or Y amount of time, whichever comes first. 2) Backlash needs to scale with DC on the mob. Say from 30% at DC1, to 80% on DC5. 3(Optional) ) Make Backlash have different effects at different stances. Like returns larger portion of damage as hate when used in AoD, and returns pure damage in Ebon Blade, and each time a mob hits you it raises its own DC in Shadow Meld. These items would synergize with our other skills. For example this scenario: DRK loses hate when he is at DC3. He pops Backlash, following with a rescue. A mob is forced to hit him few times, resulting in more hate against the mob, on top of other damage you do in the meantime. Please let me know what you think or what Avair's feedback is on this idea... thanks |

I was excited about Backlash at first because it sounded like Disciple's Endowment of Balance, which reflects half of the mob's next hit back at it, not only damaging the mob, but preventing half of the damage of the attack. The ability itself is reminiscent of so many other DK abilities: it sounds great on paper, but is rather underwhelming in application.

This is one of the many DK abilities that sounds cool but actually does not work all that well.
The problem with making it scale with DC is that with the way DC currently works it would do nothing but weaken the ability, a.k.a. be a nerf. One of the fundamental problems with dreadknights is that DC does not work as advertised. DC is supposed to build up and not drop while a DK is in combat and then slowly drop off after combat is over. (I don't feel like digging up quotes but this was said many times in beta and it's obvious when looking at the way our abilities scale that this is what was intended). As of now DC simply drops as soon as whatever mob you are fighting dies, which is not the way it was supposed to be. So my vote would be to get DC fixed before tying any more abilities to it because right now any ability that is tied to DC spends 99% of the time in gimp mode. |

Agreed, DC needs to be fixed to build up because of general "battles" and then remain at a level with all the mobs that are engaging you, this current event of slowly building up DC with each mob isnt what was advertised and is detrimental to the way DKs work, causing us to fall behind.
We are mostly balanced at DC5, but that happens so rarely and of course goes away so quickly. |
