Xaices, Avair, Symbol of Wrath definately not working.

Myself and a few other have posted about Symbol of Wrath not working or working only intermittently. It was supposedly tested and found to be working, but I am here to tell you that it is not working, at least not for me, and provide you with test results.

I have been doing the Shadow Hound quest and thus have had tons and tons of time to test abilities.

First off - how to test this ability. The damage portion of this ability is very difficult to test because the damage bonus is so small and damage variables are so high.

*However, I get no change in the numbers on my character sheet when I use this symbol. Some people are reporting that I should be seeing a change.

The DC increase part of the buff is very easy to test though, so I decided to go with that.

Now I'm not sure if the DC increase boost on this symbol is supposed to provide a dc increase on all attacks or just ones that innately give Dc increases, so I ran independent tests with each type of ability.

For these tests I am using Drox UI which actually displays the DC meter in bar form so that you can see the exact amount of DC that any attack or ability generates.

Test 1. DC increase with abilities that innately increase DC.

The primary example I'll use here is Dreadful Visage.

Number of Casts to reach DC 3 with no symbol of Wrath = 4

Number of Casts to reach DC 3 with Symbol of Wrath active = 4

Number of casts to reach DC 4 with no symbol of wrath = 7

Number of casts to reach DC 4 with symbol of wrath active = 7

Out of many, many tests and recasting symbol of wrath many times I was never able to get it to have any effect with this ability.

Test 2. testing skills which give no innate DC increase.

My primary example here will be Scythe of Doom.

I've seen people mention Scythe of Doom as a good skill to use with Symbol of Wrath as it will supposedly increase DC to max in one good swing.

Well, I used these two skills together and never once saw any Dc increase whatsoever. As a matter of fact what i believe people were witnessing was the DC increase from ravaging darkness or for getting crits with SoD (which can increase DC), or a combination of both.

Likewise i tested symbol of wrath with every attack/spell we have which gives no innate DC increase and was never able to get it to do anything.

Now, having said all of this:

Every now and then, if I cast symbol of wrath over and over again, i can get it to work. Maybe 1 in 20 tries, and the DC increase is very obvious when it is working.

99% of the time I can not get this symbol to work.

I hope this gets some attention and ends up getting this ability fixed.

Half the time I forgot to even use them they are so out of sink with the content. Only time I use them is when Im grinding low level mobs for faction... well I do use the shielding one but I cant see any difference when mobs hit for 1300 plus.

I use symbol of wrath almost exclusively while soloing. It does work. It's -very- noticeable, especially at DC5. It has -never- worked with dreadful visage, and it always works with vexing strike. The damage also always works, as you can tell by watching your damage range on your character sheet increase.

The only thing not working here is that it doesn't effect spells.

If you would have read my entire post you would have seen that I extensively tested this with both Vexing Strike and Malice with no effect.

As a matter of fact i am going to edit my post to make this more obvious.

The symbol seems to work with some people and not others, perhaps it's a racial bug.

The dc increase is very flaky for me when I use it, It seems to drop in and out as well.

However I can say the damage increase at the very least works with SoD, did you see that? (no I get almost no dc from wrath on SoD usually, I don't think that one works like people say, now at 50 when I aoe I just get dc 5 on the first mob before I go into a pulling frenzy)

I see. It must be a racial thing, or a bug specific to your character. 100 out of 100 casts, I get increased damage on my character sheet. This even works at DC0, out of combat. I also, 100% of the time, notice an increase in my DC gain with vexing strike, malice, ruin and wrath (I also use DroxUI). My DK is a kurashasha, and a friend of mine, on Vulmane, reports similarly -- works fine for him.

I'm not here to debunk your bug report, I'm just trying to supply all the facts so they can know where and where not to look.

Symbol of Wrath has always appeared broken, but it only one way.

The damage gain absolutely appears to be working, ive always used wrath when i hit dc 5, and the attack numbers in the equpment screen always change to represent the current DC i am at, and the dmg i produce is visibly larger.

However, the extra DC gain that symbol of wrath is supposed to have appears never to have been working.

I would love to be proven wrong here, but i have tested the exact number of swings it takes to gain dc while switching symbols, and have never had a different number of attacks.

Symbol of Wrath does provide the damage bonus.
Symbol of Wrath does not provide the Increased DC gain.

i have a similar problem
the buff of shield of fear doesnt work. i should get some % to my block value but i dont get it. i looked in the combat log and every hit i get i saw a message "the buff shield of fear cannot be cast on you. you have to be level 36+" or something like that. shield of fear you get with levl 26. when i was under level 30 the message was "... have to be level 30" . i was happy to reach level 30 and was sad to read "...have to be 36"

it came with the patch where a level 50 cleric cant buff his strongest buffs on a level 1 char. something went wrong

Your post is valid and deserves its own thread if its working as you say.

That being said this is the Symbol of Wrath not working thread, dont hijack it 8)

Symbol of Wrath is intermitent. I have numerously had to hit it a few times and watch my attack numbers to make sure it took effect. It seems to have similarity with SoD misfire in certain regions, tho not associated in any way.

I am waiting to hear back from Avair on a few issues. Have had negative contact this week. I think Avair is overloaded with tasks atm, will let you all know more when I know more.
