Multi mob agro help

I find it really easy to hold agro for single or doubles not too hard. I have some trouble for the bad pulls and would ask my borther DKs for advise. You got any tips? One thing is when you play with a CC class and they sleep a mob, then you cannot do any area effect agro that deals damage. This is a big problem for me. How do you handle it.

Thanks

With multiple mobs, I Pick up the one in the front or really the first one I happen to target. As i' build up hate on that mob, I let the CCer's grab what then can. After CC is in place, I try to pull away from CC'd mobs, just to make it easier to distinguish between them and active ones. By now I've had adequate hate on the primary target, I tab target/change targets (note: be careful with TAB targeting, you could get something you didn't intend, often), throw on our Hate DOT, hit/taunt it a few times, use incite chain if I get it, and then switch targets again. Most of the time I'm just switching through and just add the DOT and then switch again.

When "oh $#!|" situations like that happen, it's important to establish a primary kill target, so the DPS is focused, and not generating hate on the free mobs.

My 2 cents.

I'd say if you are playing with a CC class and you have room in whatever place you are in, try to move the mobs and put your back to the cc'd stuff so you can use your aoe, if its inside its a little harder. Don't use SoD unless you are going to die though, no Aggro from it.

Inside I usually ask how many they are going to attempt to cc, if i'm pulling I will bow the main mob, and melee it while doting any of the non cc'd adds. If i'm pulling i will choose what mobs I get to tank, if they are pulling you have a bit of pick up to do so they don't die.

If your group is killing the main target, you shouldn't need to do much more then switch targets when dot wears off, refresh the dot, hit it a couple of times, and then go back to the main mob.

Always try to keep adds you will be tanking DoTed... It makes quite a difference in the hate.

I use clicks to target, though, and be sure to despoil any buffs that make the mobs hit harder (like frenzy / str / anything) off the adds if you can, but you can usually leave the +def ones on there, except for the main mob.

Thanks

Thanks for the good advice. I can see these techniques will definately help. One thing I am concerned about when switching targets to adds is having my teammates target them instead of the main mob. So I try to target the main guy for the first 5 seconds of combat or so. Does this sound right to you?

Yes. You'll have to stay on the first target a bit longer, to make sure you have its attention. Once you do, you can start switching targets.
