Much-needed ability idea.

As the other two tank classes have abilities that either force a crit (Myrmidon's Gift, Paladin's Virtue ability whose name escapes me) or have a very high crit chance (Kick, Aegis Strike), I don't think it would be unreasonable to give DK's something along the same lines. I was thinking about it, and came up with an idea. We mainly need crits to either get SoF/DB up, or to establish agro early on, and we have Shadow Step, so lets use it.

Woeful Strike
10 endurance
200% weapon damage +x
Must be behind your opponent.
1:00 cooldown

This ability would be guaranteed to crit. The damage is decent, but not so much that it would put us out of line with our intended damage. It would give us the chain opener we need, with a fun twist with Shadow Step. I posted this here rather than Silky Venom to spare myself the pages and pages of rants, whining, etc. from every other class. We have a pretty reasonable community going here. So, ideas, comments, I'd love to hear them.

How about we make Slay 100% crit? The crit rate is fairly high, but why not just cut the cheese and make it 100%. I think its a nice middle ground to go off from the old slay and the new slay. I do agree with you but I think this change would fit in nicely.

I'm fine with how Slay works. The reason I want a different ability is that by the end of the fight, whether or not I crit doesn't really matter. It's a nice bonus, but it isn't essential. What we need is a way to guarantee a crit at the beginning of the fight in order to establish agro or throw up SoF/DB when necessary.

I like this idea. But maybe to make it a little more obvious that it's purpose is for starting the fight, make it only useable out of combat like PB.

I actually suggested the auto-crit thing in a few forums (after playing both Pal and Warrior classes) -- it was obviously a huge thing DK's were missing that both Warriors and Pals have (though Pal's is constrained by Virtue).

However, I never thought of the idea of the starting fight idea (ala Phantasmal blade). Interesting/constraining twist -- and kidna inline with DK. I would say if you do that then remove the refresh on it.

I personally would love to see an auto-crit ability -- but I doubt it will happen <g>

My initial thought was an out-of-combat ability like PB, but like my girlfriend pointed out, best not to give them ideas. :wink:

So, your reasoning is that warrior and paladin have an ability then dread knight should have something similar...

Why not just make all the defensive tanks with the same abilities but with different names then.

Let's just give some kind of lull skill to warriors and also an ability to heal themslves as paladin and dread knights have that.

Geee enjoy your class for what they can do. I am not saying everything is perfect but keeping the different classes apart from each other is something interesting.

So only one out of the three classes should have autoattack? Which one? For that matter, which class should have rescues? Taunt? Which should wear plate? For the sake of balance and game mechanics, some skills have to overlap. Not being able to force a crit severely limits DK's ability to hold agro compared to other classes.

I played with a few DKs and they never really had a problem holding aggro. A skill that will make them crit 100% would be to increase their dmg rather than to improve their aggro imo.
