N00b Questions!
Hey Guys,
Been busy and haven't had a lot of time to plus thus why I'm still only level 12. Anyhow I have a few questions that I'm hoping I could get some answers to. 1) Weapon Skills. First of all, what exactly do these do. What's the difference between the 2 hand slashing set of skill vs the great axe set of skill (for example). I'm assuming that the actual skill is some sort of chance to hit an opponent? Stacking on top of this, is it worth my time to try to keep multiple skills maxed out, just use the best weapon available, or keep your best 2h / 1h shield combos maxed? 2) Stat Points. Normally I go for massive HP and any sort of mitigation type of skills/stats in games (lowering damage, not dodge, parry, etc. I prefer constant low damage to prevent spikes). Anyhow, Constitution seems relatively useless at 3HP per point and 1 resist per 6ish points? I guess I'm thinking 4str, 4dex, and 2 cons. Being a DE I don't have much problem with my mana pool, and I guess the 2 int (1 racial 1 for all stats) per level will be enough to add a decent amount of hate to torture. I know I'm missing a few questions in here, I'll add them in later! Thanks in advance! |

Generic weapon skills (two-hand slashing, one-hand blunt) are your chance to hit skill. 95% at max.
Specific weapon skills (Greatsword, short sword, etc) is bonus damage. At max, it grants a 10% bonus to your damage dealt with that weapon. Being a DE, i went 4str 4dex 2con atleast up until 35. This gave me a solid frame to work on, and now with pretty decent gear at 44, and usually in group settings, I'm starting to put a few points into VIT for mana regen. By the time 40 rolls around, I don't think the distribution of your stats will make much of a difference. It'll all even out, one time it may have been better to put points into CON for that extra hit to live, and another time it'll have been equally important for faster regen during a manatapping boss to fire off a taunt. Whatev.

Fellow Dread Knights! Boy! Am I glad I found this forum!
I have a L7 DK and am pretty new to VG so pls bear with me as I ask a whole lot of Noob questions : 1) DK stances - as I understand it, there're 3 (Armor of Darkness / Shadow Meld / Ebon blade). How do i activate/change them? I think mine is perpetually on Ebon Blade.... 2) I have bought a crossbow and have about 100 bolts in a quiver. And I have armed my prim weapon slot with a 2h sword while in my range slot I have the crossbow with the quiver in the ammo slot.... but even when I arm the crossbow, I cant use it with auto-attack function (or any function for that matter!) Grateful for any help from fellow dread sould out there! Freeg Nyteblood  |

To use your crossbow, you need to use the Ranged Attack ability. Which can be found in your Abilities book on the General page, just drag it to your hot bar and click it to fire it.

Yes, shadow meld is 25 and AoD is 10. As for stats, I would really recommend you get as much str as you can, the other stats are really up to you.
right now my dk is Str/dex/int ... and I think I put a little to much in int, since only a few spells use it. try to keep your skills up early. cast Dark Ward / Snare to keep conjuration maxed especially... Keeping skills up is easy, but catching up is a pain. at the very least keep one hand slash and two hand slash up. Archery if you want to use a 30 range bow. |

Thanks alot DRKs!
There's been a whole lot of info in this forum and trust me it's really great! I spent some time reading through some of the posts and it gave me a whole new perspective. Now I'm gona work hard and level up so I can kick some non-DRK butts on Tharridon.... Just level 7 and I've been PK'd once and escaped once narrowly already... I'll surely be actively contributing when I can over here in future! Freeg Nyteblood  |

I go 4dex/4str/2con myself. ATM im 47 and last I checked I'm getting 4 HP per Con',which can really add up. I can't tell you how many times I have had little to no visible life before that heal hit me  As far sa weapon skills to the best of my knowledge the base ability such as 1hand slashing or 2 hand slashing is what modifies your actual chance to hit the mob. And the weapon type such as Longsword or Greatsword modifies your damage. Unless you want to spend a couple days once your level 40 or so catching up your skills in areas you would like to use I'd suggest you stick with what you like the most (Greataxe for me) but make sure you also max out your 1hand slash as well each level as to not fall too far behind. My guess is that in the end we will all pretty much be using both. Sword and shiled on the stuff that simply demands it. And 2handers on the easier content. Currently I have yet to need a Shield. The times I have died there was no way a shield would have saved me. But in the end it is not a HUGE swing in either dirction so if you realy like one over the other I would suggest you use it. Just do't neglect other things that intrest you along the way or you will be spending a few days catching them up.

I do agree on weap skills to keep upgraded. Anyway you wont be able to have all specific weapon skills (such as shortsword, Greataxe...) maxed since you have a limited number of point to allocate. Iirc you cant try to max all but 5. Personnaly I keep maxed the 1h blunt (maxe and hammer), 1h slashing (longsword and axe), 2h slashing (Greatsword and greataxe) and 2h blunt (Greatmaul).
As for stats, as an orc i went STR/DEX (meaning i get 7 pts in str per level 1 from level +2 from racial +4 for allocated points and 5 points in dex 1+4). I started going full Int as a third stat but since then bought back all my points an sitting on them while wondering what to do with those. Int is good for the few dmg spells that we have but i run OOM very fast if I start spamming those debuffs/nuke. So wondering about Vit (for energy regen) and Wis (for larger manapool). Con could also be a nice one but I get a +2 racial per level so so far Im ok with it. Last piece of advice, as soon as you get Dark Ward and later on the snare, keep using them till you maxed in conjuration and then make a point of keeping the skill maxed each time you level. Else youll find yourself at lvl 38 with a grand 160 skill in conj, getting resisted on 3/4 of your snares and having hell of a time to bring it back to current level. Snare is a real nice utility, in group to prevent mobs that flee and solo to fear/snare kite. |
