Bard soloing....

So I saw a bard try to solo Beranid Hills quests last night...

Bard is 39, mobs are 38, 2 dots.
I am 41 DRK, with decent gear.

He was soloing 2 dot mob, and than another 1 joined in. He ran away barely with 5% hps. So i felt sorry for the guy, and joined in to help him. In 2 hours all of those quests were AoEd down. I had to tell him to stand back and just finish off runners, and I did most of the work, no buffs, no healers. I was just BlackWinding/soDing mobs in packs of 6-10. Druids were a major pain (they stun root and cast Endur debuffs), but we got it done with a couple of death here and there.

At the end of it all... he said - "Gosh and I thought my class was in good shape... But when you see another class AOE mobs solo and you can't kill 2 reliably..."

Felt kind of proud to be a DRK and wanted to share.

i've group often with a bard and i've noticed that bardis a great class for soloing (mainly because of their speed and constant snare).

DKs are also great soloers with snares, life taps, and fear. However, from my observations, bard can solo stronger mobs (higher dots) better, but can't handle adds as well due to taking more dmg and having less HP. Bard with a good bow and endless supply of arrows can kite almost any mob (assuming decent amount of room to kite). DKs eventually run out of energy from casting abyssal chains, torture, and fear.

I've seen Bards take on 5 dot named mobs with ease, don't feel sorry for them.

I have a 41 Warrior, he can just about manage two equal level 2 dots, and only then because he has a level 38 legendary two hander, normally he has to cut and run if there is more than one, 2 dot mob, and you can't even consider 3 dots.

Tip: soloing with a DK you will want alot of STR, DEX, and INT.

i can solo a red 4 dot without losing half HP and if i get social agro i can always get away the ley is to have enough int to be able fear on demand, i pretty much only fight the mob when im lifetapping it, and since i have + crit and dex gear i usualy get 1-2 crit chains off, then i fear it, snare it, beat it up some more back off hit it with our DoT which because i have very high into ticks for alot of dmg, it runs back, i let it hit me a bit while i hit it, then its shadow step, life tap, ravaging darkness, SoD, fear, snare, kite rinse and repeat.

This is probably a dumb question, but what benefit does more int provide to fear? Did you mean wisdom which would give you a larger energy pool that would in turn allow you to cast more fear spells? Maybe there is some relation between int and fear that I have been overlooking. Just curious.

I think he's under the common misconception that int makes your spells harder to resist... which it doesn't spell resistability is purely based on your skill in the school of magic of the particular spell vs the level of the mob.

INT will, on the other hand, make a big difference in the effectiveness of spell type abilities like Torture (and Provoke, which makes INT nice in groups too).

It has also made a noticeable difference in how often I can see who the mob is targetting rather than ??? Which is helpful in PUGs.

Sorry didnt fully explain myself - while fear kiting (And yes +wis and +energy gear helps it to make it so you can fear more times in a row) the dmg done by your DoTs and INT skills (as mentioned above) increases. I dont worry about my energy to much i have alot and can constanlty fear over and over without an issue, however i have notice my Torture skill, WoD, and even Black Wind skill hit alot harder than most DK's do. More dmg while not getting hit = better soloing.
