Hey I'm Nite from the hilsbury server =p
I've been going 1hsword/board for 40 levels now, just because. I tank in offensive stance and have no problem keeping aggro. Although, I did just get the Subjugation, will give that a go, but need to get some skill ups first..

no fair stole my name lol
i've tried the 1h sword and shield but it never really worked out for me i tend to just stack up in really high level armor (which is gonna kinda become bad at 50 but then again who doesnt want full raid gear? 8) ) i perfer being an extra DPS and a good tank at it 1h sword/shield never really cut it for me ![]() |

i have easy-as-cake-to-set-up macros to switch between 2h and 1h+shield.
switch out pretty often, depending on the situation, like if i have aggro for sure, and the healers are slacking, i'll whip out a club and sheild. Mainly went with club, because i found a good cheap one at lower lvls, and it's my highest 1h skill rite now. even so, my default is 2hs for the chain crits. |

depends totally on the mobs i fight with my group:
1H/Shield and defensive stance for hard mobs (like 4/5dot red) 2H and defensive stance for all normal mobs (like 3/4 dot even +/-2) 2H and offensive stance for all low mobs (like 2/3 green/blue) works perfect for me.

At level 40, I have yet to use a 1h for anything other than skill raises. I actually went up to 38 never touching one, but decided I should probably stop being lazy and raise skill. I have a static group with my girlfriend healing on a Blood Mage, so I do have more leeway than most DK's do in random groups. We've done most of the major dungeons and quest lines, and I have never had a problem holding agro or staying up. Although, in all fairness, the staying up part is more a credit to my girlfriend's healing. I never use AoD bcause I seem to have more trouble with agro, even though it is technically our tanking stance. So yeah.... 2h in offensive stance is certainly a viable option. The healer has to be on the ball, but the agro generation is unreal.

I am almost always in offensive stance with a 2h Axe. I went with 2h Axe because when I hit 18 and saw the Tsang's axe, i wanted it
![]() I have 0 problems with agro, and healers don't seem to get overworked (in most pugs, after we're done, they all praise me on what a good tank I am, so I'm assuming my damage in take is not too much for them). Very rarely I'll whip out the sword and board and drop to def stance if my health is getting low and I don't see heal spells being cast in the group window (like when the healer LD'd mid pull or something). Or if we have no CC and I've gotta take being beaten by more than 2 or 3 4dots. I'm 30 now and using the Ageless 2h Axe (it's insane).

Nusin, Longsword of the Ages + Shield of Al'darez in groups
Flawless Defenders Spirited Greatsword (iirc thats the name) heroic crafted 2H sword. +6 End regen is hoss. I do prefer the 2H because its cake to keep aggro, but some mobs just hit too hard to drop that insane block. Plus the shield has 1% mitgation on it as a bonus. |

It would seem the 2hander does well in groups due to the damage and agro generation it produces. My AC and HP are so high right now nothing I battle in group ever stresses out the healer enough where I need the extra AC a sheild brings.
While tanking raids you will probably do best to use a one hander and shield for the AC and chance to Block, it will make a difference when fighting a raid mob as opposed to a group mob . Every little bit counts on a raid. So the real answer is a good tank will use both abilities depending on the situation. |

I use both. I run trivial content with 2-hander but I go sword/shield for anything harder in a group situtaiton. If I am solo fighting 3 dots that are 3+ levels higher than me I find the sword and shield works best for me but otherwise solo with a 2-hander. I actually like using the one handers a lot. With the weapon delays on them it's easier to control the weapon swing reset and manage endurance for longer fights. Trash fights are just an endurance dump though which is where the 2 hander shines. |
